A measure proposed by state House Democrats last week would severely limit the models of pistols allowed to circulate in the Tar Heel State.
The bill, HB 1060, was filed last Thursday by Orange County Democrat Verla Insko and would require the North Carolina Department of Public Safety to first develop a safe handgun roster, then ban sale or possession of any pistol not included on the list. Insko and the bills seven co-sponsors argue there is a lack of federal design and safety standards on pistols and that Californias controversial roster of Handguns Certified for Sale should be a starting point for North Carolina to work with.
Established by Californias Unsafe Handgun Act, that states roster of handguns that meet the states expansive safety requirements was established in 2001 and is getting gradually smaller. Under state law, new semi-automatic firearms sold in California must have the capability to permanently stamp shell casings fired through the gun with an identifying mark. The concept, known as microstamping, creates a serialized shell casing that could be traced back to the gun that fired it. However, this technology is not in a current production handgun and as a result, Californias roster is contracting and is increasingly limited to legacy models.
In 2008, the number of guns on the roster stood at over 1,400. Today it is half that amount. For instance, no Generation 4 or 5 Glocks handguns have been approved for sale in California. Handgun giant Ruger has only one semi-auto pistol, a .380, listed that is approved.
Further, while it is legal to buy and sell so-called off-roster pistols to a degree in California, Inskos proposed legislation ups the ante on gun control as it bans possession of guns not listed on the proposed North Carolina version and has no provision for grandfathering. Those with newly prohibited handguns would have two options as outlined by the proposal: sell or transfer the gun to a licensed dealer or the local sheriff.
Inskos bill has been referred to the House Rules Committee. Californias microstamping law and its corresponding handgun roster have been the subject of an ongoing legal challenge from gun industry groups since 2014.
Other options exist.
Keep the guns, hang the Democrats.
What are chances for this?
...where it will die an ignominious death.
“Other options exist. “
And decent, law abiding folks are “taking advantage” of them. Here in CA, the best option is to have one of your children move out of the state and help you with “the familial transfer” of what you’d like to have.
Libs moving out out CT and moving to NC...ruining the south one state at a time.
At no point in history has any government ever wanted its people to be defenseless for any good reason

“What are chances for this?”
North Carolina has been somewhat invaded by northeastern Asian carp but not as bad...yet...as VA. Everything is a close call these days in states with an invasive species problem.
Don’t blame this on the leftist in CA. This one of North Carolina’s own trying to mimic and push California’s insanity on her own constituents.
The Tepublicans control both houses of the state legislature and the Governor though a Democrat, has a favorable NRA rating. This bill has no chance.
It will motivate me to get to the polls and vote straight line Republican though. Great job Dems!
AKA, gun confiscation.
Polite suggestion for the upcoming midterm elections...
GOP candidates from EVERY STATE should mention this NC DEM bill, and get their opponents to say whether or not they would introduce or vote for anything similar. (Put them on the 2A defensive, it will stimulate the 2A vote!)
Figures... 11 terms as demorat in the NC House— and her district is over half the Orange County, NC and the one that includes..... commie lib Univ. of NC in the Berkeley of NC— Chapel Hill, NC.
Chapel Hill— Jesse Helms once said “why do we need a zoo for NC? Just put a fence around Chapel Hill and sell tickets for folks to come look”. Truly whacked place.
NC is also a Reciprocity State for other States with CCW— so a person from out of State, where they are legally owning a firearm (w/or w/out a CCW from that State) may have said firearm while in NC. That possession is recognized as legal in a reciprocal agreement that is encoded in NC State Law.
So, messing with what guns may be “possessed” would run right up against the firearms “possessed” by reciprocity holders of firearms while in the state. Stupid, and meaningless, just like ole..... “Verla”
Right out of the CA playbook and we know how that ends.
I’m sure the GOP-e will get right on this. /sar
New Jersey wasn’t always a liberal sewer either.
Overrun by libs from NYC and Philly.
Maybe the way t o deal with these gun laws is to have hundress of thousands of Americans refuse to comply. They can throw us all in prison.
That’s what the FEMA camps are for.
islamicrats, y’all can go to hell.
“Libs moving out out CT and moving to NC...ruining the south one state at a time”
NY, NJ, DC and MD are flooding in the central portion of the state also.
The western portion of the state gets commie libs from all over the country.
Rural east Carolina no so much but the NE tier is solid old slave belt democrats.
