A measure proposed by state House Democrats last week would severely limit the models of pistols allowed to circulate in the Tar Heel State.
The bill, HB 1060, was filed last Thursday by Orange County Democrat Verla Insko and would require the North Carolina Department of Public Safety to first develop a safe handgun roster, then ban sale or possession of any pistol not included on the list. Insko and the bills seven co-sponsors argue there is a lack of federal design and safety standards on pistols and that Californias controversial roster of Handguns Certified for Sale should be a starting point for North Carolina to work with.
Established by Californias Unsafe Handgun Act, that states roster of handguns that meet the states expansive safety requirements was established in 2001 and is getting gradually smaller. Under state law, new semi-automatic firearms sold in California must have the capability to permanently stamp shell casings fired through the gun with an identifying mark. The concept, known as microstamping, creates a serialized shell casing that could be traced back to the gun that fired it. However, this technology is not in a current production handgun and as a result, Californias roster is contracting and is increasingly limited to legacy models.
In 2008, the number of guns on the roster stood at over 1,400. Today it is half that amount. For instance, no Generation 4 or 5 Glocks handguns have been approved for sale in California. Handgun giant Ruger has only one semi-auto pistol, a .380, listed that is approved.
Further, while it is legal to buy and sell so-called off-roster pistols to a degree in California, Inskos proposed legislation ups the ante on gun control as it bans possession of guns not listed on the proposed North Carolina version and has no provision for grandfathering. Those with newly prohibited handguns would have two options as outlined by the proposal: sell or transfer the gun to a licensed dealer or the local sheriff.
Inskos bill has been referred to the House Rules Committee. Californias microstamping law and its corresponding handgun roster have been the subject of an ongoing legal challenge from gun industry groups since 2014.
NC trying to weasel back in to CA “official business”
Conservative Republicans still have large majorities in both houses of their legislature. DOA bill.
“require the North Carolina Department of Public Safety to first develop a safe handgun roster, then ban sale or possession of any pistol not included on the list”
All that will be legal is the old fashion cap guns...but only if they hold less than 10 caps.
It all goes back to those filthy, degenerate midwesterners invading, corrupting and stealing the great state of kalifornia back in the 60s. That’s where it went wrong. Kalifornians were much to accommodating and kind and generous and the pigs stayed. Kalifornia, instead, should have forced marched every one of them into internment camps and saved the state.
Strike North Carolina from my list of potential retirement places.
Notice the government is dictating this not putting it to a vote of the people.
There are those of us in South Carolina who hold that “N.C” stands for “Northern Commieland”. It is at best a checkerboard of red and blue.
My brother in law lives in a conservative neighborhood in Lincoln, CA.
When liberals move in they make it extremely uncomfortable for them. They fly their don’t tread on me flags. Trump signs everywhere. And they do not shirk from making their politics known. My BIL has no filter and actually laughs at a lot of their liberal ways in front of them. You can’t ban the leftists from moving to conservative states but you can make it extremely uncomfortable for them. Eventually they will leave.
FReepmail me if you want to be added to or deleted from the list.

I wish SC had reciprocity with CO. There are a few more places I would like to visit there. I have family in MD so no choice about visiting the freak state but I have choices with the rest of the states.
InNorth Caroline?! Incredible that anyone would promote California idiocy like this and still be electable.
What happened? Did a bunch of Northeastern Yankees retire down in North Carolina?
The operative phrase her is “,referred to rules committee”. Committee is where all crappy legislation goes to die.
“It all goes back to those filthy, degenerate midwesterners invading, corrupting and stealing the great state of kalifornia back in the 60s.”
Midwesterners? You should have been so lucky - unless they were from Chicago. I think easterners (eg Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein etc) are more what killed California.
Not so much retiring as invading.
Right after Obama took office I decided to sell my company before it became worthless and I took a night manager job at a 24/7/365 food store (Fortune 500 company) that also sold gasoline. We were located right on I-95. From the end of 2009, and for at least three years after, I encountered thousands of minorities moving from mostly New Jersey down to either North Carolina or further to Atlanta.
This was a continuous flow of rented vans with U-hauls stopping for fuel and food, every night. I really felt bad for NC and Georgia and was angry as I knew they were going to turn into liberal hellholes.
This phony “safety” scam has been running successfully in Massachusetts, courtesy of Maura Healey, State’s attorney General, far lefty, and dyed-in-the-wool lesbian.
They tell everyone that “old gun designs are unsafe” and then outlaw access to anything that isn’t a contemporary re3voilver.
No legislation necessary. It’s a “public safety” issue.
"Republicans hold a supermajority in the state House and state Senate, meaning they not only control which bills get voted on but can also override the governor's vetoes.
"Paul Valone, president of the gun-rights advocacy group Grassroots North Carolina, said the bill shows that Democrats "are trying to incrementally ban the ownership of firearms, one step at a time." He thinks it would drive up the cost of handguns.
"He's not worried about the bill now, because he doesn't think Republicans will even consider it."
Perhaps you'd consider South Carolina instead? Very red state. But we can never have enough conservatives living here.
They did that in Mexico. Incremental ban.
So what’s the GOP response? How about they submit a bill making open carry legal? Or that a municipality can not charge more than $10 for CHL? Or ANYTHING similar so that the next time a Demotard submits an anti-2A bill he/she/it knows that there will be a substantially more pro-2A bill issued in response!
