Gay Americans are arming themselves to stay alive
NY Post ^ | June 12, 2018 | 1:31pm | By Benedict Brook

“I don’t want to get beaten to death, stabbed and burnt alive,” a slight woman with long blond hair and a checked shirt says. “I want a gun to feel equal.”

She is a member of one of the United States’ fastest-growing gun clubs, the jauntily named Pink Pistols.

Two years after the massacre at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, gay, lesbian and transgender Americans are nervous. According to the Human Rights Center (HRC), a US LGBTI advocacy group, 52 gay people were murdered in the US last year because of their sexuality, and 28 transgender people met the same fate.

In increasing numbers, they are fighting back by taking up arms.

It’s brought them into lock step with pro-gun groups that haven’t, historically, been all that welcoming of gay people.

Australian journalist Patrick Abboud traveled to the US to meet some of the new gun-toting gay people, for a report to be broadcast on Australian news show “The Feed” on Tuesday.

It was a sobering experience, he told News.com.au.

“There is one murder per week of a gay person purely because they’re gay, and that’s really horrifying. The level of homophobia and transphobia in the USA is out of control and some people told me a gun is the difference between living and dying.”

The Pink Pistols have been nicknamed the “gay NRA,” a reference to the controversial National Rifle Association that is a staunch proponent of pro-gun laws.

“I would never have thought I’d see the LGBTI community siding with incredibly conservative, right-wing, pro-gun advocates that have been publicly homophobic and transphobic — that didn’t make any sense,” Abboud explained.

But after meeting some of the gun club’s members, Abboud said, there was a real fear that had only been stoked by the country’s rabid political landscape.

I am NOT condoning murder of anyone, but 52 murders a year is hardly a crime wave-——it would delight the folks in Baltimore and Chicago.

From the article: “He spent a couple of hours showing me his guns. I couldn’t believe the number he keeps around him, I saw 35 guns....”

That could be considered an arsenal. A clear invitation for an atf investigation.

More power to them. And minorities as well. The place that you’d need a gun for self defense is in an inner city like Chicago.... where gun ownership is illegal.

I don’t care if they are gay or not. An American has a right to arm themselves, and self protection is one of the reasons to be armed. This is not a homophobia issue, it is a hoplophobia issue.

Yes, they SHOULD arm themselves for protection - against each other.

Two years after the massacre at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub...

They aren't going to be allowed to carry in most nightclubs. Especially if they are consuming alcohol.

I also agree with another FReeper: 50 deaths a year in a country of 330 million people, three to six million of whom might be homosexual, doesn't seem statistically significant. I would also want to know what other factors were involved; ie - how many were shot for reasons other than their sexual orientation? Wrong place, wrong time? Robbery in a bad neighborhood? Etc?

While they are entitled to their 2A rights, people who are mentally ill are generally "Prohibited Persons", so use your imagination on that one.

I have no problem with this, as long as they agree that the rest of us have the right to defend ourselves as well.

I support their right to arm up but let’s be clear about why there is an elevated murder rate. First, like you wrote, mental instability is rampant in that community. The second factor is the culture of anonymous hookups as opposed to building relationships prior to sleeping with someone. For gays and trannies, this means they are inviting into their homes, cars and bodies someone they know nothing about except they are willing to have sex with them. This has to count for some of the murders. As for trannies, the problem often is deception by the trannie. Many of these are being killed for deceiving people (mostly men) into having sex with them without revealing their sex until it is too late. Third, there is the factor of class. Gays, as a group, have higher incomes and nicer things to tempt evil doers. Unwary affluent people have always been targets. Finally, there is the drug culture that is popular in the gay and trannie communities. So many of these murders can be attributed to factors other than homophobic people hating gays just because they are gay or trannie. I condemn all murder but most people take reasonable precautions to avoid dangerous situations and it seems like gays and trannies have a habit of running into those situations as fast as they can.

They can’t just be Armed Americans, can they? It is always about their pride in sodomy.

Where is the evidence that these people were killed ONLY because of their sex-preference? Are you sure it wasn’t a domestic dispute? A robbery? (Homosexuals are generally higher income that average.) How about hanging out in less safe places as oppose to the average married couple who home stays at home more? Can we see where they dug up these statistics?

If the numbers are right, does it really matter?

If you feel it's unsafe you might want a gun.

Are they gearing up to shoot anti-homo muslims?
