Californias 168-year run as a single entity, hugging the continents edge for hundreds of miles and sprawling east across mountains and desert, could come to an end next year as a controversial plan to split the Golden State into three new jurisdictions qualified Tuesday for the Nov. 6 ballot.
If a majority of voters who cast ballots agree, a long and contentious process would begin for three separate states to take the place of California, with one primarily centered around Los Angeles and the other two divvying up the counties to the north and south. Completion of the radical plan far from certain, given its many hurdles at judicial, state and federal levels would make history.

To: Libloather
I’d like it. We need to split up the electoral load and let conservatives chip off a few votes.

I saw this movie. It was called Demolition Man.

Southern Oregon would join northern California as a single state.
To: DIRTYSECRET
But you would get two leftist states in return.

Yes. They are drawing the boundaries to get 2 blue states and as purple a third as they may. They are really trying to create three more Illinois if they can, where the densely populated areas totally overwhelm the rural.
Congress should refuse.

The blue goes too far south. Orange County should be yellow.

Bad idea.
This gives one radical leftist state THREE TIMES the congressional representation.
And, they have plenty of illegal voters to flood each third.

The East-West split makes more sense from a political standpoint. The coastal regions (and the SacraMetro Area) contain the insanity.

The fact that Vermont, a small county of New York, was granted statehood has always pi**ed me off. Vermont was not on of the original 13 colonies. If Vermont gets two senators like Patrick Leahy and Bernie Sanders why can’t the conservative parts of California have the chance to elect a non marxist.
To: Libloather
I notice competent states, like Texas, aren’t desperates enough to offer such harebrained schemes.

I won’t be voting for that nonsense.
The worst of the new three states would wind up holding all the strategic assets of the former state in their grubby little fingers.
