Disney is selling the longtime headquarters of ABC News, which occupies a prestigious piece of New York City real estate.
...
The sale is raising new questions about the future of Disneys troubled news operation.
Once-vaunted ABC News has struggled for identity in recent years, as the TV news spotlight has shifted to cable and the internet. And ABC News' notable shift away from hard news coverage, perhaps in search of viewers, has reduced its relevance in the news ecosystem ... as Disney executives voice increasing frustration with the high costs and low returns of the news operation.
...
ABC staffers tell Fox News they have been informed that they will likely be moving far downtown in Manhattan to an area known as Hudson Square, which is not convenient to many commuters... ABC is seeking about 33 percent less square footage downtown than it currently has, raising the prospect that the move will be accompanied by staff reductions.
...
Even as staffers anticipate potential cutbacks, ABC News, which is owned by Disney, continues to pay huge amounts of money to the stars at the top of its on-air roster... these paychecks have rankled Disney executives

Disney pays President Bill Clinton's onetime adviser George Stephanopoulos a reported $15 million a year despite criticism that he plays an awkward role on his main broadcast, Good Morning America. It is also paying largely unknown host David Muir, of World News Tonight, an estimated $7 million a year
...
ABC News programs include Good Morning America and The View, which blur the lines between news and entertainment programming.

In addition to the various liberal bias controversies swirling around ABC News, Disney has also faced criticism over anti-Trump comments by ESPN stars, as well as by ABC's late-night comedy star Kimmel

Oh, is that why Stepinit and his wife didn't move to New Zealand when Trump won.
I went for a long time avoiding the urge to root for the failure of these companies because I knew there were some people just there for the work in any number of jobs from forklift driver to IT support.
I put that to bed years ago. I have actively rooted for them to fail, since they have shown they are dedicated to assisting people who want to oppress us.
Heres a real out of the box idea. What if a network news department actually just reported the news with no spin. I know of 63 million Americans who might actually tune in.
Well if they would just stop hiring the relatives of Democrat party officials and actually hire some people who didn't lie out of their mouth @$$e$, they might not be having such troubles with their "fake news" business.
I get down two posts and BOOM.
Saying it better than I was going to.
When was it ever vaunted?
Hey Disney, want to know how to cut costs and gain huge market share quickly?
1. Move out of NYC. Move to a place that is much more representative of America. Suggestions: Cody, Wyoming: Spartanburg, South Carolina: Kansas City, Missouri: etc This will be way cheaper and will put your staff much more in tune with what real Americans are actually acing in their day to day lives and what they think about things.
2. Move to the center or even slightly right of center. This will mean firing practically everybody you’ve got. That’s OK. You pay them a ton and they aren’t delivering anyway. Instead of battling it out constantly with CNN, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, The Young Turks etc for the minority of people in America who identify as liberals, you will now only have to battle Fox for the larger share of the population which identifies as Conservative. (pssst....dirty little secret...there are plenty on the Right who are not in love with Fox, they only have such a huge market share because there is literally nowhere else to go on TV).
My consulting fee will be a modest $10 mil. Hey, that’s less than you pay several of your Leftist windbags every year for an audience they are not delivering. I’m sure you’ll agree this is a quite reasonable fee. I’ll even throw in a clause in the contract which says if you follow this advice and don’t gain market share I’ll fully refund you.
The View is considered a news show? It's the coffee klatch from hell!
They should move them to Biloxi or Des Moines or Elko if they really want to save money. In this electronic age, it doesn’t matter much where most of them are. Do the writers, producers, editors, and anchors need to work in Manhattan?
Hang em all
Don’t all the network news divisions lose money?
Matt Drudge used to say that he made more money than “ABC, NBC, and CBS News combined.”
Maybe CNN or someone else was in on that too.
Get woke, go broke.
JoMa
They could save money by just moving the whole thing to Disney World and building a complex for their news division in Fantasy Land.
They only need one thing to be successful: Truth!
I think I am crying.....maybe happy tears. Wait, I am not crying, it was just gas.
They could turn it around in a New York minute. Just hire Newt Gingrich to run the operation and give him the freedom to clean the stables.
glory hole for midgets operater?
Maybe if they reported news, and didn’t spew propaganda they wouldn’t have these problems. I remember long ago news reporters gave unbiased news. Then the editor would give their editorial. Then someone who disagreed could give a rebuttal. But that kind of messed up the editor’s propaganda.
Tunnel bunnie ...
