The Democrats are in a prison cell.

Their base is made up of a coalition of competing minorities whose goals are often in conflict with other members of the coalition. It is impossible for the Democrats to deliver on every promise (real and implied) to these various groups.

They are opposing the Trump administration partially because if they said or did anything to help the administration their base would turn on them. In other words, they are like a prisoner in a cage with few options.

It is a prison they built themselves by being too clever by half. Pandering to the fringe groups gave them votes as well as a army of thugs willing to go after their enemies (and non members of the group are enemies in their eyes).

So when you read or see Democrats say and do things that are not really in their best interest you must understand they have no choice. Their base will not allow them to make nice.

And that leads to their real problem, the American voters get tired of the pettiness, and vile hate being directed at the President (and by extension his supporters). The Democrats are losing the American people. They are even losing individuals that once were part of their base. One voter at a time.

And there is nothing they can do to change the direction they are going.
