Netanyahu also thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for his fighthe annual Russia Day celebration put on by the Russian embassy took on added significance on Thursday because it was held in Jerusalem, the first national day to be held in the capital by any country in recent memory.
I am delighted to be here, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who in the past has sent other ministers to the Russian Day celebrations said in the picturesque Sergei Courtyard in Jerusalem.
I am honored to celebrate Russia Day here with you in Jerusalem, and I predict we will celebrate many, many more Russia Days in Jerusalem, he said.
Netanyahu said that he has great respect for Russia for its contributions to civilization and for the courage of its people. The prime minister noted the critical role the Red Army played in the defeat of Nazi Germany, saying we never forget the sacrifice of the Russian people and the Red Army in the defeat of the Nazi monster.
Netanyahu said that the relationship between Israel and Russia is born of common history and common interests, including being united in a common fight against terrorism.
Netanyahu also thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for his fight against antisemitism.
Russias newly appointed ambassador, Anatoly Viktorov, said that holding the reception in the Sergei Courtyard was in line with Russias statement last year that we view west Jerusalem as the capital of Israel provided that the specific parameters of a solution will be reached through direct negotiations based on relevant UN resolutions.
Sergei Courtyard was transferred to the Russians following a 2007 cabinet decision. The Czarist-era landmark was constructed in 1890 to accommodate Russian pilgrims visiting the Holy Land, and was named after Czar Alexander IIs son, Sergei Alexandrovich. The property has been renovated and was reopened last year, housing a hostel for Christian Orthodox pilgrims, a museum and a library.

I’m starting to believe that the Christianity of Russia will one day rid them of the communist and atheist past.
Given the Iran-Israel situation, I fully understand Israel courting friendship with Russia. We should note Russia has not intervened on behalf of either Assad or Iran when Israel has attacked in Syria recently - against Iranian positions and against Hezbolla positions supported by Assad.
That the home of the reformation is now mostly godless is tragic.
So Haley, Bolton, McCain, and the Democrats are still doing Russia-Russia-Russia, but not the Israelis.
So Haley, Bolton, McCain, and the Democrats are still doing Russia-Russia-Russia, but not the Israelis.
Needs to grow beyond 47% Christian in Russia. The US is 64% and we still elect democrats.
That's due to Donald Trump's leadership. America's re-discovered our voice in the Middle East and our staunch commitment to Israel.
Back in the day, Israel had to cater and tiptoe around Russia. Not the other way around. And the fact that Assad and Iran were that empowered to begin with attests to Russia's aid to them.
Both Russia and Germany have a long way to go from recovering from their Soviet/Nazi pasts -- but in Germany's defense, they are OVER-compensating in their wrestling with guilt...hence the migrant crisis. They feel that by taking in this generation's refugees, they are atoning for their past.
However, churches are not governments and the fact is: numerous orphans and refugees have converted to Christianity upon their arrival in Germany. That reality is not to be undermined or insulted.
Germans also pay reparations to Jewish families. Germany (with America's help) persecuted Nazi war criminals. And despite my problems with the EU and Ms. Merkel: I do believe God has looked well upon Germany and there's a reason for their great success and booming economy.
Russia has done none of the above in terms of wrestling with their past. They put on a good show with their Crosses and Candles and yet they're at war with Ukraine. Kiev is the spiritual cradle of all Russian civilization and right now Russians and Ukrainians are at war. Thousands are dead and the war continues. Orthodox Christians are split and divided.
Theyre going to town against France. The spirit of Charles Martel is dead in the French.
With all due respect af_vet_1981,
Russia has a greater influx of Muslim migrants than Germany (albeit from different parts of the Muslim world) and far stronger Islamic holdouts such as Chechnya, led by Ramzan Kadyrov who is heavily propped by Putin, and is home to numerous homegrown terrorists. Russia allows Muslim migrants to enter visa free from former Soviet holdouts because ethnic-Russia is in demographic free-fall and there is a shortage of labor.
Moscow is second only to Paris in terms of sheer size of Islamic presence in a major European city.
Both Germany and Russia support the Iran Nuclear Deal with Russia being FAR more the ally not just economically but militarily. Both Germany and Russia voted AGAINST declaring Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. With Russia going out of their way to reach out to Palestinians in paving the way for a 2-state solution.
Syria’s Bashar Al-Assad HATES Israel.
And it’s only because of Trump’s staunch support strategic approach to the Middle East that Russia has to answer to Israel (and not the other way around as it was before.)
Not to mention the large presence of Jews from Russia/Ukraine/greater USSR who make up the population of Israel. So there’s only so much of a button you can push.
“Israelis Don’t Trust Putin to ‘Do the Right Thing’ but Believe Trump Would, Pew Study Finds”
I think the middle east end game will be an alliance between Russia, isreal,Syria and the US against iran. Trump accepts Assad and Russia’s rule of Syria in return.
The Russian government, led by Vladimir Putin, still celebrated Russia Day in Jerusalem. What has the German government, led by Angela Merkel, done (besides conquering Europe and making it unsafe for Jews again)?
