This is such liberal hypocrisy. It was perfectly okay for Bush and Obama to pick winners because they were enlightened and chose the politically correct solutions (wind, solar, electric vehicles). But President Trump is a neanderthal troglodyte because he is looking to the past...but, he happens to be choosing proven, mature technologies that can produce reliable, cheap and clean power without federal subsidies.

The truth is (as we all know) that wind and solar can never produce enough power to run the world. Their energy source (the sun) is too diffuse and too weak to produce enough power. Wind, solar and EV technologies would consume all the rare earth elements in the earth's crust chasing the chimera of "climate change." And, because wind and solar are inherently reliable, you have to build TWO power plants to deliver reliable power -- a natural gas fired backup plant (or an energy storage plant) AND the wind or solar plant. Where is the economic sense in building TWO plants to get the job done previously by ONE plant? It's just absurd.

The only reason that wind, solar and EVs are "some of the country's fastest-growing sectors" is because they enjoy endless federal subsidies that we all pay for through higher taxes. These subsidies have been going on for fifty years now. When those subsidies are cut, these technologies will fall flat on their faces.

Lastly, the raison d'être wind, solar and EVs is Climate Change. Without that driving force, there is no need for wind and solar power (you could make a strong argument that EVs will clean the air locally in polluted urban areas). Because Climate Change is a hoax, the entire push to wind and solar power is a hoax.

Liberals pick winners and losers.

They just have a cow when Trump does it.

Did you quote from the failing New York Times?

That would be in the fiction section.

emerging technologies like wind power or electric cars that were not initially competitive but, they believed, would eventually become widespread as the world shifted toward cleaner energy.

The author writes on the past tense. That means that now wind and electric cars can compete with traditional energy and automobiles. Is this TRUE? Then take away ALL the subsidies. NOW!

Duplicitous Hopium

On energy, both the Barack Obama and George W. Bush administrations enacted tax breaks and federal loan guarantees for emerging technologies like wind power or electric cars that were not initially competitive but, they believed, would eventually become widespread as the world shifted toward cleaner energy.

Wind and solar power can only supply a miniscule amount of power compared to Oil, Gas and Nuclear.

They also require a yuge amount of space to support what little energy they give. In fact, whole cities could be built where wind and solar farms.

Those cities would be much more productive to the economy than the wasteful, land grabbing, bird murdering energy farms.

Further, if they are so great, so awesome and significant for our future, why can’t they survive with taxpayer subsidy and be run as profitable businesses?

Electric/hybrid vehicles receive $15,000-$30,000 in subsidies at the manufacturing level and are again subsidized to consumers with tax rebates totalling as much as $7,500.

(People who own any hybrid or fully electric vehicle owe the rest of us a Yuge! thank you and debt of gratitude.)

Electric/hybrid vehicle also receive a Yuge amount of social benefits, the most annoying is their ability to drive, FOR FREE, in HOV lanes.

WTH? They do not pay gas taxes to maintain the roads. Why should they get any break?

So, winners and losers.

Solara was a winner....

All Obama did for 8 years was punish one industry and prop up another based on the liberal world view.

For crying out loud the previous administration was imposing fines and penalties on industries and then literally handing that money over to non profits who opposed those same industries.

Completely unconstitutional, and rarely mentioned..

Those efforts have produced only modest job gains so far in two blue-collar sectors that Mr. Trump championed in his run to the White House. But they have injected uncertainty into a host of other growing industries — such as advanced manufacturing, natural gas production and renewable energy generation — that have helped drive American job creation since the Great Recession.

Only the New York Times would praise Obama's lower employment numbers, over Trump's very high employment numbers.

In common circles, this is known as 'lying'.

As long as people need steel and will purchase it, that industry is going to make money. As long as coal is needed for power generation, heating steel, or other things, it will make money. If it makes money, it pays workers great wages. If it pays great wages, and takes real men to do it, it is a danger to Democrats. . . . FINE’
