Tribal clashes have been renewed near the Lebanese-Syrian border and have expanded over the past few days under criticism from Hezbollah and the Syrian regime and accusations of failure to control the issue.

The clashes broke out about a month ago between the Al-Ja'far and Al-Jamal tribes. Lebanese media reported that this happened because young men from Al-Jaafar stole a car belonging to a Hezbollah official from Al-Dirani in the border town of "Zita" of "Hermel" area in the Syrian side.

The car was immediately spotted in Syria in "Aqrabiya" in the countryside of al-Qusir and held in the detachment of the Syrian army's Fourth Division. Gunmen from Al-Jaafar, Al-Muqdad and Al-Nasr al-Din raided the detachment and recovered the car and a man "Ma'ali al-Jamal" was killed in the clashes, who is a military official of Hezbollah in Syria and the official of Al-Dirani, the owner of the car, was wounded.

After the death of "Ma'ali Al-Jamal " the tribe of al-Jamal revenged and killed a man from "Al-Jaafar", which led to the outbreak of fighting between the two parties used machine guns and mortar and anti-RPG missiles, and several days ago on the 15th of this month, On Wednesday in the border villages of "Zita" and "Asfouriya" located within the Syrian border clashes re-erupted.

It has been reported that a person was killed in the clashes and the control of the "Jaafar" gunmen over the town of "Asfouriya" after the withdrawal of "Al-Jamal", which prompted the Syrian army to deploy and stop the clashes, and the clan of "Al-Jamal" resorted in this matter to Hezbollah in a statement Issued by it.

"The Syrian villages of Zita and Asfouriya and that "what is happening is within the Syrian geography, so the subject is not a Lebanese matter," the military analyst and retired Brigadier General Dr. Nizar Abdel Qader told the Lebanese website "Janoubia" stressing that the responsibility there lies on the Syrian regime and also on the security forces of Hezbollah because the area where the clashes are taking place, whether from the Lebanese side or the Syrian side is in its custody.

He added: "There is a party that claims to be a guard for this region. If its armed fighters are bodyguards and if they have liberated them from terrorist groups, whether from the" Habhat al-Nusra" or the "Islamic State" organization, "they should be separated between the Lebanese fighters who live on both sides of the border area.

Hezbollah was deployed in the region on both the Syrian and Lebanese sides, and reached al-Qusir of rural Homs, under the pretext of fighting the "Islamic State" organization" and "al-Qaeda".

Why are we there? This is crap that is happening. One side steals a car from the other side and it escalates into tribal warfare. It sounds like something out of a mafia movie or book. All we need now is two star-crossed lovers from each separate tribe falling in love and we can a Romeo and Juliet situation going on here.

This scenario has been played out in the ghettos, the old west etc. all over the world since the caveman days. Shakespearian scenarios.

I just wished one side was a different color, then I would know who to cheer for.

Religious sects, gangs, tribes, clans and militias are a bunch of peas in the same pod of violence that has engaged Lebanon fairly constantly for the last 40+ years.

Actually, since the beginning of the Muslim conquests, seldon has the Levant (the eastern shore of the Mediterranean from the Turkish border down to Palestine) been internally at peace, all on its its own, with peace usually imposed by one of the strong neighbors playing a role of occupier or siding with one group in dominance over the rest.

Yes. Giving cause for Assad to call in Iran and Russia and creating a dysfunctional state in most of Syrian territory, took an Eastern Mediterranean security situation for western interests, made it worse, and made meeting present conditions FAR, FAR more difficult and complicated than was just maintaing the status quo without the “Syrian opposition” regime change agenda.

The only obvious answer is to bring them all to American cities where they can live off the US welfare, education and healthcare system.

Saddam? I don’t know. In the words of April Glasbie he WAS stupid. He didn’t have to pick a fight with the US. Kadafy was smarter and thanks to the voters it cost him his life.

After the first gulf war we should have left him to his own devices. Just kept him contained. He was easier to deal with than the Iranians are and much easier to deal with than the mess we made. IMHO anyway.
