Gov. Greg Abbott (R) affirmed his commitment to defending the Second Amendment Monday by tweeting, “The gun control debate was settled in 1791.” 1791 was the year in which the Second Amendment was ratified.
Abbott’s tweet was a follow-up on his school security plan, which some feared would contain gun control in the wake of the May 18 Santa Fe High School shooting. The plan was released May 30, 2018, and Breitbart News reported that rather than push new gun controls the plan outlined ways to arm more teachers and school staff, and to have a greater police presence on campuses. Moreover, it addressed how Texas should avail itself of military veterans proficient in firearm use, employing them in school districts to protect faculty and students alike.
Abbott circled back to this plan on Monday, reminding Texans that he keeps their right to self-defense foremost in his mind and his plan for school safety will never include gun control.

FWIW, I left the dark and fascist Peoples’ Republik of Neu Joisey about 17 1/2 years ago with enough 20- and 30-round magazines sitting about 18 inches behind my rear end to earn about a 200-year free stay at the Rahway State Prison. I valued my rights then, and value them even more highly now (now I have kids, who deserve to be handed a world in good shape, including on the issue of firearms rights). I cannot even relate how good it is to be living in Texas, where I can buy whatever my heart desires and my wallet (and wife - if she knows) allows. The feeling of freedom is invigorating.

I was driving down the road and was surprised to hear Limbaugh say we came close to losing the 2nd Amendment by just one vote on the Supreme Court.
Now, if the nation submits to the Supreme Court like a bunch of rabbits and lets them deprive them of the Constitution, then I supposed we are over.
However, if they ever actually try it and there are about 50 million people taking to the streets, in a very unfriendly manner, they would probably find legal reasons to walk it back.
Dr. Drew Pence lauded him on his show over Abbott going after the Mormons in West Texas. It wasn’t long before his show was cancelled and we haven’t heard much from him since.
