Yes, but, the union will be fighting this at every level, and make it damn near impossible for these folks to get out of payment.... expect a lot of lower level court fights...

If you are paying these dues and want out, likely will take you a good while to get them to stop stealing from you.

Certainly for political contributions.

There is going to be a LOT of whining among the nutjobs today about Citizens. v United - how private sector companies are able to contribute to political causes as they see fit while the public sector unions are hamstrung by decrease in dues.

Of course for me this is a non-starter. How a private company with shareholders chooses to spend its money is up to them as long as it’s legal.

If the union’s cause is just, then its members should rally to it. If members resist, unions should figure out the reasons why.

From the WSJ: “The theory behind today’s decision poses no immediate threat to union-security clauses in private-sector contracts. Unlike government agencies, private businesses generally aren’t required to respect free-speech rights and can establish various conditions of employment, including requiring fair-share fees, if permitted by state law.”

If I’m understanding this correctly, todays ruling only applies to public sector Unions and not to private sector unions. Is that correct?
