Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell spiked the panic on the left by announcing efforts to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy before the midterms.
The Supreme Court Justice announced his retirement Wednesday, effective July 31, after more than three decades on the high court. His successor, chosen by President Trump, could transform the Supreme Court for years to come and the left is in a meltdown.
We will vote to confirm Justice Kennedys successor this fall, McConnell said on the Senate floor after the news broke.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley echoed the expectations that the nomination process would begin soon.
For more than three decades, Justice Kennedy served with great distinction on the Supreme Court of the United States, the Iowa Republican said in the statement, according to CNN. I expect the President will soon nominate someone for the Senate to consider. I encourage the President to choose a nominee with the credentials, intellect and commitment to the rule of law necessary to serve on the Supreme Court.
Democrats are already gearing up for a fight, however, as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer took to the floor and Twitter to raise the alarm.
"Americans should make it clear that they will not tolerate a nominee chosen from President Trumps pre-ordained list, selected by powerful special interests, who will reverse the progress we have made over the decades."
Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) June 27, 2018
My @SenateGOP colleagues should follow the rule they set in 2016 not to consider a SCOTUS nominee in an election year. Sen McConnell would tell anyone who listened that the Senate had the right to advise & consent, & that was every bit as important as POTUS right to nominate.
Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) June 27, 2018
The Senate rule change allowed Supreme Court justices to be approved by a simple majority, a fact Democrats, who only control 49 seats in the chamber, are acutely aware of.
In 2016, Senate Republicans said that the American people deserve an opportunity to speak on Supreme Court nominees.
Now that Justice Kennedy is retiring and @realDonaldTrump is president, will they silence them? pic.twitter.com/nT0wtgET6O

Of course, McConnell warned Democrats back in 2013 that they would regret the so-called nuclear option. Then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had started the process in order to change Senate rules and prevent the minority from filibustering nominations.

Youll regret this, and you may regret this a lot sooner than you think, McConnell had said almost prophetically on the Senate floor.
And it seems the times have caught up with them.
The left kicked into high gear on Twitter as McConnells words unfolded Wednesday.
The 3,500 American Countys, 30 States and over 300 electoral votes already voted for President Donald J Trump. Their voice has already been heard for the next two-and-a-half years, probably more

Were going to fight this and impeach whoever gets in there. Because this will set back our country a hundred years of progress.

So now it is suddenly okay to pick a new SCOTUS during an election year? Will the Republican hypocrisy ever end?
Shayla (@Frayed_Knott2) June 27, 2018
Dem leadership MUST make it clear were going to fight this hard.. NO meetings. NO hearings. NO working w/ GOP. Period.

The Dems need to find a way to stall this past the elections. What is Kennedys hurry is he dying? Lets give McConnell a dose of his own medicine. Anybody Trump picks will be a joke and set SCOTUS back to the dark ages if he succeeds.

Chuck, Im getting callouses on my fingers writing #PostcardsToVoters so quit talking/tweeting and get busy standing up to trump and the GOP now!
YoursTruly (@RealDeb18) June 28, 2018
But conservatives across the nation are too busy celebrating the soon-to-be-named Trump nominee to worry about the liberal meltdown.
This just keeps getting better and better. I can almost feel the temperature boiling from Democrats

Who nominated and confirmed a justice in 2010 during a midterm election year? Might be worth a google

Democrats, 2016: It threatens the very fabric of our democracy to delay a #SCOTUS nominee vote for 8 long months!
Democrats, 2018: Any legal way we can delay the vote for Justice Kennedys replacement for 29 months?

Ginsburg will be soon enough.
One. Two. Three! Three SCOTUS appointments!! AH. AH. AH.

Exactly, regarding lame duck Presidents.
Thank you Maxine Waters.
As per your instructions, deranged lefties got in Mitch’s face and ruined his evening.
One day later, Kennedy announces his retirement.
Who decides on the timing of the vote? Mitch McConnell.
Revenge is sweet.
Demotard Congress Critters on CSPAN 3 in a tizzy over the SCOTUS decisions and the upcoming nomination. hahaha
They can stall nominee for months. Let’s get ahead of this by recess appointment.
That is a great point!
Yes. Thank you Maxine Waters.
Chuck and Nancy, Mitch isn’t listening anymore.
Usually the dems are allowed to get away with whatever childish and outlandish behavior and pronouncements they please, but this time they may find out that
"Paybacks are a b*tch!"
Fine--Go straight to a confirmation vote by the full Senate. That could be accomplished by next Friday.

Welcome to the club, Mitch - but your membership is on probation. Let’s see if you are REALLY serious, by rubbing the Dem’s face it a pile of steaming dog crap - as they would do with you and the rest of us if the shoe was on the other foot.
Dems want the nominee issue drawn out to serve as a rally point for their voters. A new conservative judge selected before the elections could create pessimism in their ranks, apathy toward voting.
In other words, no democRats.
Hmm...is recess appointment possible for SCOTUS nominees?
I sure hope so, because the Flake has already said he’ll vote against any Trump nominee. Collins is squishy, too.
Without ,McStain they have 50 votes and Pence as the tie breaker. Look for a quick confirmation of whoever Trump nominates.
Kennedy is 81 years old. For some folks, politics isn't the only thing in their lives. Granted, being a supreme Court justice isn't a very hard job, as most of the work is done by clerks, but one would imagine that 81 is plenty old enough to retire.
"Unhinged" is definitely the right word to describe today's "liberals"
My @SenateGOP colleagues should follow the rule they set in 2016 not to consider a SCOTUS nominee in an election year.
In a presidential election year, dung eater. And the practice is called, The Biden Rule as you well know you pissant, gutter dwelling, unamericam moron!
Recess appointments become void when congress reopens.
He had another one last night in Fargo, ND, where the house was packed with 7,000 and probably that many were left outside because the venue was too small.
I smell a Red Wave on the way!
I am not sure about SCOTUS appointments but it would be a wise move to fill it by recess if possible. It could pay off in volumes if allowable.
That asswipe, Flake, could also be a fly in the ointment.
Most likely there are going to be quite a few openings on the court just look at the age of the current occupants - this isn't rocket surgery
