There are many senators up for re-election in red states in fall; their votes are going to be looked at.

Any Republican who interferes with Trump’s SCOTUS pick has committed political suicide. Up to and including instant recalls in states where that is allowed.

This isn’t a convoluted bill with riders and +/- all over the place. This is a very easy to understand issue that even moderate R voters will go nuts over.

>>Flake has already said he’d use his seat on Judiciary to spike Trump’s judicial nominations until Congress passes a bill taking control of US tariff policy.<<

Earlier today (can’t find the thread) Flake SPECIFICALLY said he won’t do this and that he will support Trump’s pick no matter what happens with tariffs.

If any of the nominative Rs don’t fall into line on this all-important vote, they need to be sent to Coventry for the rest of their political lives. This is our best chance in years to make the SC strict constitutionalist rather than the leftist activism we’ve seen for so long.

Flake just said he WILL NOT hold up SCOTUS nominee over opposition to the President in other areas. I don’t see Corker doing this either.

McConnell was correct when he warned Reid about going nuclear. It may come back to bite them.

“Conservative activist”!! that is an oxymoron. Is it activism now to read the constitution and obey the laws?

the only thing their votes on an SC Justice should be based on is whether that person abides by the constituiton as is or not.

Secondly, they should consider what they are leaving for their kids and grand/greatgrand kids.

Basing on anything else is blind foolishness and won’t end well for them in this life or eternity.

Just as reason Trump ran for President - he didn’t like what this country was becoming for future of his family.

RE: The pick wil get 54/55 votes

Does that include a few Democrats together with the big 4 RINO’s?

If so, who are the Dems who could possibly vote for Trump’s nominee?

Those 5 or 6 Democrat senators from red states running for reelection will have to weigh the consequences carefully before they oppose the nominee. My guess is that they will choose wisely and vote for confirmation.

“There are many senators up for re-election in red states in fall; their votes are going to be looked at.”

Exactly.

Trump has votes there to play with, and he wins either way.

Either he gets his nominee or he gets more Senate seats, or both.

Maybe some of those who are facing re-election this year in States that President Trump carried ...?

If their vote will be the deciding vote on anything, they'll side with the Dem leadership every time. If something will pass anyway WITHOUT their support, the Dem leadership will probably allow them to side with the Republicans, in order to increase their chances in the upcoming election. It's their way of fooling the voters into thinking they aren't under the thumb of the leadership.
