A group of House Armed Services Committee Democrats is demanding answers from the Pentagon on why it is “backing away” from its annual Pride celebration.
“We write to express our concern that Pentagon leadership is backing away from supporting and celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) service members and Department of Defense (DoD) employees,” the eight Democrats wrote in a letter to Defense Secretary James Mattis. “The fight for dignity and inclusion for LGBT individuals in our Armed Forces should remain a steadfast priority for the Department of Defense.”
The letter was organized by Rep. Anthony Brown (D-Md.).
This year, for the first time since the 2011 repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” the Pentagon did not issue a memo officially recognizing June as Pride Month. Without the official recognition, the Pentagon’s Office of Diversity Management and Equal Opportunity did not issue posters and other materials to mark the occasion as it has done in the past.
The Pentagon’s LGBT employee group did hold its annual celebration earlier this month. No senior official was on stage, though Army Sgt. Maj. Daniel Dailey and Vee Penrod, acting secretary for manpower and reserve affairs, attended.
The low-key celebration came as the Trump administration’s attempt to ban transgender service members continues to be fought in court.

My military days are long over too, but I can’t help wondering why the straight guys in the military can’t seem to figure out how to get rid of a few queers without getting caught. We would have.
The Military should focus on celebrating American Sovereignty, security and the death and destruction of our enemies as needed and when called upon. Our military institution should be respected and feared, like a wolf on a leash. We want our volunteer force to take pride in their mission, not in their social lifestyle or sexuality.
The government is doing it’s job, currently. It’s not their job to celebrate homosexuality every day of the year like the democrats would like.

These asshats forget the principal purpose of the military is to defend the US. Succintly that means to be able to break things and kill people. It is that simple. It is not an employment office, an education, endeavor, or a biology experiment.

Overweening pride, arrogance, haughtiness: these have been the stuff of tragedy. Vanity, fussiness, delicacy: the stuff of comedy. These are all forms of self-delusion, and paper-thin masks over rotting features. Pride and vanity refuse the truth about who we are and substitute illusions for reality. While vanity is mostly concerned with appearance, pride is based in a real desire to be God, at least in one’s own circle.
The first requirement of pride is spiritual blindness.
