MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio -- A 12-year-old Ohio boy's summer vacation was anything but exciting until someone called police on him for doing his job.

Reginald Field started a business cutting grass for his neighbors, but his service at one customer's house resulted in a 911 call.

Fields said everything was going fine until his customer's neighbors called the police, claiming the teen had mowed part of their lawn.

"They said I was cutting their grass," he said. "I didn't know it."

The neighbor told authorities that the teen and his crew had cut a portion of their property and were in their yard.

Fields said he became discouraged after the incident, but then the customer decided to post about the incident on Facebook.

The post received thousands of views and hundreds of shares, and with it, a business boom.

Now, Fields is receiving a lot of support and requests from new clients.

"Just give me a call," he said. "I will be there. On time."

imo shows a total lack of common sense and absolutely no common courtesy..all caller had to do was talk to kid or neighbor...but no makes as we used to say a “federal case” out of a small error obviously no bad intent by the kid, can’t say the same for the caller...

Cutting grass is “destroying property”? Lighten up Francis. Its a kid mowing lawns, not writing graffiti.

Exactly.

If freepers want to see real property destruction I invite them to visit Southern California and take a look at the graffiti plague that now ruins so many once pleasant suburban neighborhoods.

And that isn't an unintentional act of some kid trying to mow a lawn.

LeBron should buy him a whole range of new lawn care equipment and set aside ample funds for his college education.

good thing the neighbor didn’t call the FBI once they found out the kid was a hard working capitalist, they would have spied on him entrapped him and destroyed him if he didn’t toe the party line and give them “gifts”

Well the kid is learning a valuable lesson that in the landscape of life there are mountains and there are molehills and you will come across people that can’t recognize the difference.

"What I learned, besides don't judge a book by its cover, is not to think you're better than someone else and they have little to offer just based on appearance. Because of my experience with that black man in college, I helped others later as an IT guru.

One guy was a rough gangsta looking black guy from the ghetto working as a technician for me. Upper management wanted me to fire him. Guy couldn't write well, poor speech, and people were put off by his looks and manerisms. But he was a hard worker and dedicated, and curious. I taught him about routers and programming in exchange for his troubleshooting skills with multiplexers and wiring. He watched my back when we went to ghetto areas, me a white guy in a suit apreciated his street smarts. He worked his way up to a high-paid router administrator for a complex."

____________

Thank you for that story. Life is interesting isn't it?

It is COMPLETELY expected that you, Pelham, would add total sanity to the ongoing conversation.

Danke

Yes, in so many ways. Sorry to hear of your ordeal with your dad passing away at a young age. Mine died when I was 19, so I also didn't get to know him as an adult or have him see how I turned out. But you learn from others that have it much worse and they work things out while giving you a few pointers. For me, it was a friend of my dad. He had gotten beaten nearly to death by several punks and set afire with gasoline dumped on him, lost use of an arm and went through many skin graft operations. But always was upbeat and helpful to others. I learned plumbing and other skills from him; useful even though I held desk jobs later. He had a great sense of humor, would ask me to rub his neck, and laugh as he asked how it felt to rub his ass (skin grafts).

Sacajawea is technically correct, albeit in a most likely trivial way.

Should the kid have checked? Yeah. But it’s - as she conceded - not an offense appropriate for calling 911. Though maybe also the line looked obvious but wasn’t.

A more important reason a property owner might object to having their lawn mowed by someone else, is that - as I recall - in Ohio and some other places, if you mow property for 7 years...it’s yours, and becomes the new boundary line.

:)

Yeah, if a kid started moving part of my lawn, I suspect I’d call 911 too.

Sorry....The kid should have found out himself before he began cutting from the people whose lawn he is supposed to cut. He’s not a little kid chasing a ball. He’s destroying property.

Please revisit your priorities. This kid destroyed nothing.

It’s a 12 year old boy. There seems to a gross lack of judgement pervading our FreeRepublic.

Apparently very few of you remember what it was like to be 12, more’s the pity.

I’m just amazed that we still have some kids around with the drive and initiative to go out and work for their money. Kid should get an award, not have some idiot call the police - or suffer criticism from so-called conservatives.

You backed Sacajaweau - did you read the original statement?

"Sacajawea is technically correct, albeit in a most likely trivial way."

So, even after rereading your statement, it still reads that you agree with Sacajaweau - then you add that imbecilic part about "if the kid mows the lawn for 7 years, he'd own the property".

Really? Maybe you need to correct your original response - or just go fishing when you feel that you need to comment.
