TAOS, New Mexico (Reuters) - A man was arrested on Saturday on charges of starting a forest fire in Colorado that has destroyed structures and forced hundreds to evacuate their homes in one of dozens of wildfires raging across the drought-hit U.S. southwest.
Jesper Joergensen, 52, was taken into custody for suspected arson that started the Springs Fire, the most active of around 10 blazes in Colorado, the state hardest hit by fires, according to Costilla County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
Joergensen is not a U.S. citizen and will be handed over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement once he has faced arson charges, said a Costilla County detention officer. The officer could not immediately say what nationality Joergensen held.
The fire has scorched over 38,000 acres (15,378 hectares) between the towns of Fort Garland and La Veta in southern Colorado, forcing more mandatory evacuations of homes and ranches on Saturday in a mountainous area of public and private land. The fire continued to grow, fueled by temperatures in the mid 80s Fahrenheit (27 Celsius) and had zero percent containment as of Saturday afternoon.

Sounds Swedish. Or maybe a Dane!?
Just starting the fires Americans won’t start.
Not Swedish, the e...
Nordic. Just think of all the black d—ks he’s going to enjoy in prison.
Well, subtract those costs from what we give, or their illegals remit, back to his country.
Huh. I thought he just went nuts at Christmas.
Disgusting.
I have family and friends in the area affected. Tonight a pre evacuation order was issued for the Huerfano valley...where I raised my children. My son in laws family lives there as does the great grandmother to some of my great grandma children. One of the Roadies for the old Fleetwood Mac band lives there. John Denver owned a farm in Malachite. He was my neighbor. The farm was also a college school where young folks learned how to raise animals, raise grains, raise food...the old fashioned way. They churned their own butter, and when having season came around, the hay was cut and gathered with horse drawn equipment. They also had a wood shop where exquisite doors and boardroom table tops were made from raw lumber. The kind Trump would order.
A lot of famous people either lived here, or visited here.
Remember Aussie Redman shampoo? Well, Redman has/had a ranch there. They raised Buffalo. And a little further up the road is a wolf sanctuary..a big deal wolf sanctuary.
Tanya Tucker’s cousin owned a little store/gas station that I almost purchased.
I got toeet the appolo 15 astronaut, Jim Erwin there when he waltzed into a little restaurant I was working in, only a year before he died.
Is anybody familiar with Chipita jewelry? She and her husband have a little house there, too.
One of the most humble and beautiful places on the face of the earth is going up in flames, and a ton of memories goes with it.
It’s infuriating that we aren’t being told a motive for what that arsonist did. But a lot of lives are destroyed as a result of it. Word is,(grapevine) he was burning trash. He’d been cited for it before.
So sad.
Yet another wonderful illegal alien torching our country.
It is sad, and its worse because it didnt need to happen. I hope your friends are safe.
German
Wiki says it’s Danish-Norwegian origin so German isn’t out of play.
German? Hang this one around Merkel’s neck.
Impossible to protect against.
Regards,
Agree. Beautiful area. The fires in Sonoma last Oct 2017 were brutal, too.
” Word is,(grapevine) he was burning trash. Hed been cited for it before.”
It may not be the case here but moonbat liberal regulations are often the reason people burn trash when they shouldn’t.
Too many regulations drive dumping prices up to the point that many can’t afford garbage service, so their only option is illegal dumping or burning it.
I wont disagree with what you are saying; however, it is completely his responsibility to burn in a safe manner.
Just kidding you always-trumpers.
Some places outlaw burning at all times, any burning is illegal. The same areas will make so many regs on dumps and landfills that it costs a fortune to dump your trash or get garbage service.
Don’t discount the problem unless you’ve live in such a area.
