With a father a senator, GHW Bush landed the CIA job.

My opinion is that he was the one who corrupted the CIA. He used it ever after, and the Reagan victory overcoming Bush was akin to Trump defeating 17 republicans for the nomination. The establishment was stacked against Reagan, and he prevailed anyway.

The deep state goes back at least that far in my opinion.

Eisenhower suggested he saw its rise in his day with his words about the “military/industrial complex”.

It was corrupted long before HW came along and laid his crap down. The Dulles boys were a disaster for this country/ Truman knew it and Kennedy knew it. Kennedy declared he was going to shatter the CIA into a thousand pieces and then fired Allen Dulles. And then he was assassinated. And Allen Dulles wound up on the Warren Commission. Kennedy should have shattered before speaking.

I agree, the nascent Deep State was put on steroids by GHW Bush.
