I lived in Japan during the aftermath of the terror attack.
It was a big, big deal and there was a hardcore, sustained manhunt to capture all the perps. It went on for years.
I still have one of the wanted posters.
I don’t think the Japanese have left-wing judges causing trouble every time they try to apply punishment, so they can have some fun ‘playing around’ with that beast for 20 years or so...making sure he pays big time.
Totally different here - if we don’t efficiently execute killers, there’s a good chance that a judge or a change of direction of the Supreme Court will not only end their death sentence, but even set them loose.
I’m personally surprised they still have the death penalty. Wonder if they used a katana?
[ You got that right... Prison here (Japan) is NO TV, NO visitation, no talking to others, every day forced cleaning of anything/everything, NO special treatment (like back in the states), and sleeping on the floor with futons (which is torture in itself)... ]
I think instead of sending our criminals to American Prisons aka. “Crime-U” we could send them to Japanese prison for 1/3 the time and get far better results!!!!

Reminds me of Grathon Tolar from the DS9 episode In the Pale Moonlight where his Klingon jailers would keep telling him he was to be executed tomorrow...
Don't forget Singapore and Taiwan.
