One thing I can say about their variety show. They managed to have funny skits that weren’t in the least bit vulgar, more than can be said for anything nowadays and a lot of things back then.

That is true. Comedy has devolved into a hodge-podge of vulgarity, racism, bigotry and inane liberal political drivel.

Back in “the day” (showing my age) comedians like Carol Burnett, Red Skelton, Burns and Allen and others were very funny without a vulgar word anywhere. Jack Benny was a master of the deadpan pregnant pause. He could just stand there and be hilarious. It’s sad to have watched the death of comedy.
