On this Independence Day, lets go ahead and admit that 2018 has not been the most uplifting year.
Since January, there have been at least 23 shootings that left someone injured or killed at a school in the United States. As of last week, at least 2,000 minors separated from their parents were in the care of the Department of Health and Human Services, with no clear path to reunification. The past several months have seen high-profile instances of outright racial harassment and a much-bemoaned downturn in civility.
Income levels are stagnating, and inequality is soaring. A growing number of Americans despair of ever achieving the American Dream. The United Nations has reported on the United States rates of youth poverty, infant mortality and incarceration the highest in the developed world.
And each time a fresh outrage emerges or a disappointing piece of news breaks, a chorus rises up from politicians and everyday citizens alike: This is not who we are. Americans dont keep children in cages. Americans dont ask travelers for their citizenship papers. Americans dont turn away the huddled masses. Americans dont elect white nationalists to political office.
Except: We do.
Of course this is who we are. The truthful response is obvious and tautological: If this werent who we are, then it wouldnt be happening. We Americans are doing these things or, at the very least, seeing them done in our names.
And those who say that this isnt who we are are forgetting who weve always been. To say that this it not the real America is to forget our countrys past. The United States has been a country of land grabs, of slavery, of forced migration and the separation of families as a matter of public policy.

Especially for Americans who were looking for a job, life has become meaningful again.
Thank you Mr. President!! We luv U.
Most destructive POTUS ever.
Nobody's ever been able to explain this to me.
In addition to being both truth-challenged and melodramatic, this person simply doesn’t write well enough to be published in a major newspaper. Or even, for that matter, in The Post.
>>As a Caucasian I feel racially harassed also.<<
That is why few Europeans are interested in migrating to the US — they feel that they would join a minority group if they did migrate.
Every time anyone rants on about what a dreadful country this is I say,
“Thank God for Donald Trump.”
“He is turning away thousands of Central Americans and saving them from a lifetime of misery in this awful country, the man is a saint.”
Works every time.:-)

I'm embarrassed to admit that I,convinced that DJT was gonna be shot down, went to bed at about 9PM. Of waking up the next morning I got the surprise of a lifetime.
As most Freepers know there are many 10 hour long videos of the coverage of the various networks on youtube.
It's truly amazing that every network...ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN/MSLSD/BBC and CBC all had the same chant throughout the evening.
But the joke's on them.DJT carried college educated whites as well as white females.
But Your list Is Rasisss!
