Trump: My Responsibility ‘Is To Select a Justice Who Will Interpret Constitution as Written’
Breitbart ^ | July 7, 2018 | Ian Hanchett

Posted on 07/07/2018 11:09:32 AM PDT by GonzoII

During Friday’s Weekly Address, President Trump said that in picking a replacement for Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, “my greatest responsibility is to select a justice who will faithfully interpret the Constitution as written.” He added, “Judges are not supposed to re-write the law, re-invent the Constitution, or substitute their own opinions for the will of the people expressed through their laws.”

Transcript as Follows:

“One of the most important decisions a president will ever make is the decision to nominate a justice to the United States Supreme Court.

Last week, Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his decision to take senior status. I was greatly honored when Justice Kennedy came to the White House to meet with me. America is truly grateful for Justice Kennedy’s lifetime of distinguished service. He has given me a great responsibility to choose a worthy successor.

Last year, I was proud to appoint Justice Kennedy’s former law clerk, Neil Gorsuch, to the Supreme Court. Over the last year, Justice Gorsuch has embodied the most sacred principles of the court, making impartial decisions based upon the Constitution.

In choosing Justice Kennedy’s replacement, my greatest responsibility is to select a justice who will faithfully interpret the Constitution as written. Judges are not supposed to re-write the law, re-invent the Constitution, or substitute their own opinions for the will of the people expressed through their laws. We reject judicial activism and policymaking from the bench. The faithful application of the Constitution is the bedrock of our freedom, the foundation of our society, and the linchpin of our government. The American system tasks Congress with writing the laws, the executive with enforcing the laws, and the judiciary with issuing neutral judgments based upon those laws and the Constitution we have sworn to protect...

Perfect words....

That it was a living document was an excuse for the Dems to legislate from the bench.

Exactly what he’s said from the start, and exactly how it should be!

Now, who will say no to that?

Who is the most pro Constitution of those on the list? He may not even choose from the list.

Oh, my, he is an advocate for ‘original intent’... This next justice has much weight upon his/her shoulders.

Couldn’t have said it any better than that.

POTUS Trump clearly understands that the Constitution is the Foundation, the Bedrock of our Republic.

Leftists think the Foundation of the Constitution is made of Paper Mache, set on top of Quicksand.

Who could have ever imagined that a former New York Liberal would be the guy to get the SCOTUS back to where it belongs.

No Politics involved with his choices unlike many of his go along to get along GOP predecessors, but a concise reasoning based on the intent of our Founding Fathers.

Trump was a capitalist builder. He worked with politicians left and right to smooth the way to make his buildings/fortune. I doubt he was ever a liberal.

Wow, what a fantastic weekly address!! Whoever would have thought that a POTUS simply reiterating Constitutional bedrock principles such as separation of powers and interpreting law would bring such joy to me and others.

I am not a fan boy of anyone - including Trump. But IMO - best president we have had since 1900. Maybe the best president since Washington.

What a turn around from Obunghole.

Noting that I gladly voted for Pres. Trump and do not regret doing so, please consider the following from related threads.

Constitutionally low-information Trump doesn’t seem to understand that when he complains about state sovereignty-ignoring activist Supreme Court justices who have problems interpreting the fed’s constitutionally limited powers, he is actually complaining about the ill-conceived 17th Amendment (17A).

In fact, in order to make Trump’s vision for MAGA last for many generations, patriots need to support Trump in leading the states to repeal 17A.

The 16th Amendment needs to disappear too.

What it must feel like to have been a NeverTrumper, and have gotten it this wrong.

This is the man I saw when I studied his platform and listened to what he had to say.

Imagine the intellect that would allow someone to vote for Egg McMuffin, versus Trump over Hillary.

Social Liberal in the NYC Tradition.

Difference is, he saw the Light so to speak.

The Liberals loved him when they thought he was one of them, just like Dershowitz is finding out.

One step off the DNC Plantation Property and you are a Runaway Slave.
