How can they tell if you’re counting cards? Are they mind readers?

How can they tell if you’re counting cards?

I believe they can tell if you win more often than if you lose!

In my younger days, I dabbled with card-counting. So I’ll field that question.

In card-counting you assign a value to each card that has come out. The actual value depends on the system you’re using. And when the overall count is favorable to the player, you increase your bet.

And that’s when they’ve got you! Casino employees are trained to spot suspicious bet increases. The eye-in-the-sky camera will start paying special attention to you. Make a few more suspicious bets, and out you go.

There are counter-measures to that. Sometimes make a stupid bet. Sometimes increase a bet when the overall count doesn’t favor you. Etc. But all these measures reduce your winnings. And the casino folks are experts. You probably won’t fool them for long.

hardly any secrets in professional gambling. Those casinos are expert in reading human behavior, eye movement, fin gets moving, facial expressions. I think card counting is the number one reason people are 86’d.

I worked prisons for 28 years. I remember an old timer that could tell you from watching an inmate for 15 seconds, he’s up to something, he’s holding (has a shank) and so on.

Betting patterns are the obvious sign of card counting. Casinos pretty
much know when you do it.

You can be banned for that very minuscule chance that you are able to affect the the chance odds of the game by “card counting”, but it’s really just a movie thing in all practicality, but it “can be done under the correct circumstances”. That is why casinos have a six-deck caddy. In the old days the smart folks could have won by mathematics when playing blackjack.

I miss the excitement of the casino floor...

They're pros and if anyone has an idea of cheating the casinos, they've probably already seen it and are prepared for it.
