A family is urging everyone to stay up to date on vaccinations after losing their infant son to meningitis.
Four-month-old Killy Schultz died June 30, about 24 hours after developing a rash and spiking a fever on his way home from day care.
"He had just eaten his bottle for the afternoon. He was a little warm but we figured it was a warm day so get him home and let him cool off," said Killy's mother Alex Dempsey told WTVR-TV.
They gave him some Tylenol and when that didn't work they decided to get him checked out at the emergency room at St. Mary's Hospital.
Several tests later, and just two days after Killy had received his 4-month-old vaccinations, Dempsey and her fiancé Gabriel Schultz were informed that their baby had most likely contracted meningitis, an inflammation of the protective membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord.
"The moment they said meningitis I knew there was a really strong possibility that we were going to lose him," explained Dempsey. "They told us we were going to hit the window if he was going to make it or not but being he was only four months old he didn't really have an immune system to help us with that."
"Just out of the blue his heart rate dropped, and they started to do CPR and after 10 minutes of CPR you don't come back from that, so we had to tell them to stop," said Dempsey. "After 10 minutes of CPR grown adults don't come back from that, he was brain dead."

[ Please don’t have sex if you don’t have a loved one or nanny to watch an infant if you create one. An infant’s immune system DOESNT REALLY EXIST YET. He borrows from the milk and the bodies of the very few family members incl nanny) around him. He should NEVER NEVER NEVER be placed on a public or group changing table or changed by someone who routinely changes unrelated babies.
At last for one year, a baby should be kept close to home with 1-3 caring adults only, plus interactions with other people growing in frequency as the year goes out. Group daycare for under 12 months old is a BAD IDEA.
Every other mammal gets it. ]
But FORCING the mother to take care of the child is a tool of the oppressive patriarchy!!!

He was exposed to meningitis in a group of immune damaging vaccines 2 days earlier, in the bleeping meningitis vaccine (hib)!!!!!!! Duh!!! The vaccines killed him

There are other ingredients that sweeten this particular smoothie without any sugar being added: Mangoes, Pineapples, Lemon Juice Blend, Organic Spinach, Carrots, Kale, Papaya Juice Blend, Ginger, Stevia-Based Sweetener.
The 40 oz version lists "sugar" at 116 grams, but my blood glucose levels register normal the following morning. I think I'll tell them to skip the sweetener on my next visit, as mangoes and pineapples are sugary fruits.

In 1973 our nine-month old daughter contracted the same illness. She did not go to daycare. My wife cared for her at home. She spent 17 days in the pediatric isolation ward at New Orleans Charity Hospital. Because of what she had, no other hospital would take her. Big Charity saved our baby’s life.
The first visit back to our pediatrician after her discharge from the hospital, he told my wife that when the baby left his office on the way to Charity, he never expected to see her again. By the grace of God and the wonderful doctors and nurses at Charity Hospital, he got surprised, and she experienced absolutely no after effects from the disease.
While at Charity I asked one of her attending doctors where she could have contacted virus. He said that almost anyone could be carrying the virus, but that our immune systems could keep it at bay. Her immune system failed her. There were no vaccines in 1973.
please. daycare by me takes them at 6 weeks. 6 WEEKS! why the heck you’d have a baby and put them in daycare at 6 weeks is beyond me. I stayed home with my girls but i know that does not work for everybody
Yes. I made sure my son is up-to-date because he’s going off to college where there are many illegals.
I’m not ‘anti-vax’...but believe in “stair stepping” the mixed vax.
Have a relative who was anti...and kid ended up with meningitis and is almost deaf.
Not to interfere with your enjoyment of your hysteria, but it takes about a month for the vaccine to become effective.

Infants routinely get a vaccine for meningitis from Hemophilus. It is the most common cause of meningitis for that age range.
This infant I think died from meningococcal meningitis, which is the most common cause of it in teens. I have actually dxed it after seeing it on a slide in native form, has the characteristic rash and the mother speaks of the child turning purple - those are petechiae. Classic again for meningocccus.
Then there is a third cause for meningitis in older adults, and possibilities for other causes too that are rare.
Anyway it is impossible to catch something from a recombinant vaccine, which I believe the hemophilus influ is ---
Finally there are slews of folk walking around with meningococcus in their nasal passages and never having the disease. It is impossible to avoid it completely.
I don't know why the press is saying things like "from an unvaccinated person".
Usually very survivable, esp in adults.
There are many many causes of meningitis which is a generic term for inflammation of the meninges of the brain.

Now I have to rethink the entire scenario.

My family was into natural living before it was fashionable-I grew up that way-living on a remote ranch, it was easy to keep us kids within the group of relatives we’d been accustomed to since we were infants, and there were very few vaccines given to little kids-none of them to tiny infants. I married another ranch kid, and we raised our cub the same way-again easy because we lived outside of town, so we were able to do as we thought best to keep our cub safe-limited exposure to outsiders and I stayed home and cared for her- my aunt was our only nanny after that-no “daycare”. We got her vaccinated on our schedule, not anyone else’s-there still weren’t many-DPT she got at about 4 months, polio shortly after and the measles one was pretty new-she got that at 4 and the smallpox one shortly after-but none of this slamming her immune system with a barrage of stuff like today-I think it is harming these children to do that-it just isn’t natural.
She had already had mumps and chicken pox the natural way before she started to kindergarten-it was Catholic school for her until HS-my hubby gladly worked 2 jobs for a couple of years to afford that, and for me to be a stay-at-home mom the 1st few years-after, it was my stay-at-home aunt as nanny-I did not leave my cub with strangers.
Sometimes when I read articles like this one, I wonder why parents don’t pay more attention to caring for and protecting the precious children they are gifted with, letting strangers tell them when to expose them to meds, vaccines, etc at an increasingly young age-I know I’m just an old hippie earth mother type, but there is something very wrong with treating human babies like we treat newborn calves, goats, piglets, etc on ranches-those animals will be sold/slaughtered as food...
