2018: Democrats lead GOP by 12 million registered voters, 40% D, 29% R, 28% I
Washington Examiner ^ | July 13, 2018 | Paul Bedard

Democrats hold a massive voter lead in states that require party registration, a gap of 12 million that could be key to whether the party takes control of the House and Senate in the fall midterm congressional elections, according to a new analysis.

Overall, 40 percent of voters in 31 party registration states are Democrats, 29 percent are Republicans, and 28 percent are independents, according to a new report of July numbers from the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics. The states include several with key battles over House seats such as California, New York, Florida, and Pennsylvania.

The lead is significant, said Rhodes Cook’s analysis in Center Director Larry Sabato’s “Crystal Ball” newsletter, because in the past presidential election the majority party in 24 of the 31 states won, especially among Republican states.

In 2016, Trump won 11 of 12 majority Republican states, and took six of 19 Democratic states, said the analysis.

Of note, some of the states with registered Democrat advantages, like Louisiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia, have been functionally Republican at the presidential level for at least 15 years, said Kyle Kondik, the managing editor of the Crystal Ball.

That could be good news for the Republicans in the upcoming election, a sign that just being majority Democrat does not mean voters are in lock step, said the report which highlighted the growth of independent voters.

But it also noted that as the nation becomes more partisan, declaring party membership is an affirmative political stand.

“With the growth in independents, many voters seem to be saying to the two major parties: ‘a pox on both your houses,’” wrote Cook.

Dims 44.2 mil v. Rep 32.6 mil.

And the margin mostly all comes from the big Dem states CA, NJ, NY, and OR = ~11 million more Dem voters than Republicans in those states.

Dems are in trouble.

They seriously believe these stats will lead them to victory in 2018 — with the US in MAGA mode?

It’s the same stunt they tried to pull right up to November 8, 2016 ...

‘Hillary has a 100% chance of becoming the next president, because nobody is voting for Trump.”

Dead? very few. Illegals? very few.
Double Registered? Very many.

When people move, they sometimes change the address on their driver’s license. This leads to changing their voter address ... or the DMV automatically changing it for them. The Democrats have an aggressive, effective ground game to get them registered... something the other side has not had since the ChristianCoalition/MoralMajority did massive voter registration in the years leading up to 1994.

It takes a while, what with court cases dragging out, for the voter roles to be cleaned up. Few of the double registered vote twice. Patronage staff and contractors of local politicians want to impress their boss with how many votes they turn out. A good vote turnout means a promotion. A lousy turnout means a contract canceled.

So Patronage impersonate the voters who moved. They also impersonate the illegals and dead. In the 2012 primary I voted early. The lady a couple people in front of me got to the front of the line. The election judges were suspicious as they knew one of the people she was impersonating. They called around to other early voting places. She had already voted at a couple other places that day.

She was unsophisticated and readily told her story. She was recently hired to do office work for the local union hall. She was given a list of people whom she was told were good citizens who could not vote. So if she pretended to be them and voted on their behalf, she would be helping those good people.

Vote fraud is most effective in low turnout elections where the vote fraud makes a difference. Other than US Senator in MN, there is no evidence of vote fraud making a difference in the outcome of a major race.

But in a low turnout primary or off year election it can, and does, make a big difference. It should be noted that most districts (City Council, State Rep, County office, Congressional district) are certain to go for one party or the other. Few districts are purple. For that reason, the incentive for vote fraud is in the primary.

Probably the Jackson v Beavers race for Chicago City Council holds the record for the most vote fraud in our lifetime. That is because both sides, the OperationPush/Jesse Jackson side and the Beaver/Stroger/Obama side both committed massive vote fraud.

My neighbor in a far suburb complained to me how he had to go into the city and go from precinct to precinct impersonating the people his mother-in-law gave him. Everyone in the family and in the church had to do it. If my neighbor didn’t do it, he would be blamed for his mother-in-law losing her job and furthermore, he would then be stuck supporting his mother-in-law. He had incentive to commit vote fraud.

What they show and reality of the votes is two different things. A lot of legacy registrations. Showing blue in very red states.

Notice most states missing like SC, AL, MS are mostly republican and not on there?
Are we not supposed to notice that?

The article clearly states that this only covers the 31 states that have party registration (and I thought there were only 28 by the way). Of course that does make the headline misleading at best. Gallup does a much better job where they poll in the non-party-reg states to get the total picture. A year ago they had it at 47% D, 42% R, 11% I in terms of voter registration or self-identification. The distribution of these people is very uneven with some highly polarized congressional districts with huge D majorities so that the D registration advantage is essentially "wasted" in actual elections.

1) It’s all over, why bother.

2) Independents, in so far as they are really independent, are going to break heavily for Trump.

It doesn’t really matter, since the 12 million are housed in states where Republicans don’t have a chance at winning anyway. Say 5 million in CA, and another 7 million “scattered” in NY, NJ, MA, MD, and IL. Where the RATS win, it doesn’t mean by a one million or two!

Exactly right.

Here in North Carolina, my mother who only votes Republican, is registered as a Democrat, so she can vote local races that are important to her.

Not to mention the many conservative residents of blue states that feel the need to register as independent for fear of reprisals from democrats. When I lived in NJ I was strongly advised by a family member in the know to switch to independent in order to get hired for a state government position and to be able to advance.
