Russian World Cup Hailed as “Best Ever”.....

The President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) Gianni Infantino has praised the 2018 Football World Cup in Russia as the most successful in history.

“Since [a] couple of years I was saying that this would be the best World Cup ever; today I can say it with even more conviction because I lived it and you lived it. It is the best World Cup ever. Thank you Russia!”.......

FIFA’s head also stated,......“The legacy of this World Cup will put Russia on the top of the countries in terms of football around the world”.

The presence of teams from nations not known as football champions in the late stages of the tournament, comfortable stadiums, plentiful leisure facilities for fans and a welcoming atmosphere from the Russian people all combined to make the 2018 World Cup one for the ages in the eyes of football fans and now FIFA’s President.

Prior to the World Cup western media outlets and particularly those in Britain attempted to paint Russia as a dangerous country that would be systematically unwelcoming to football fans from abroad. The reality has not only shamed the scare-mongering reports but has helped to show the true face of Russia to fans from throughout the world.

I think what they should do to make the 3rd Place game more meaningful, is to make it so that the winner gets an extra point that goes towards their qualifying for the next World Cup.

They eliminated the WC winner automatically qualifying for the next World Cup, though.

Clearly showed that Belgium’s side of the bracket was vastly superior to England’s side.

Doesn’t bode well for Croatia, I’m afraid.

....”One can love Russia and its culture yet have a strong anti-Putin, anti-Kremlin world view plus some criticisms about tendencies unique to the population.”........

True as long as one understands the Russia today is not the Soviet Union of yesterday. Since the fall of the Soviet Union and stumblings thereafter it has taken long for the Russian people to adjust to the new era they now live... and for them it has had to be a slow process which continues even now. But they are certainly making great progress and in time further will see even further progress for the people and their environment.

“England pussy-whipped by Belgium 2-0! Don’t cry for England.”

In London yesterday. Karma?

“Russian civil war class”

Found this article to be particularly fascinating. I did not know the United States attempted to assist the tsarists!

With common final scores being 1-0, it’s hardly exciting.

The average score in the World Cup was 2-1. The most common score in the NFL is 20-17. That's really 2-2 (two touchdowns each, FGs don't count as they result from failures to score TDs).

It is not the Cold War in that we are not in a battle over set ideologies and Russia no longer carries mantle of Marxism-Leninism.

Trump treated Putin with the same tact and skill as he did Kim Jong Un. Flattery. Art of the Deal.

So long as America puts up a peaceful posture as Trump is doing, the Kremlin cannot keep diverting attention from their own corruptions from their people. They are the enemy of the Russian people. Not America.

Putin has spent his entire presidency using America as a scapegoat for the Russian people’s woes and domestic problems...

No amount of World Cup sparkle can cover the very deep problems of Russian economy and the ways in which the kleptocratic oligarchs have looted the country’s resources, people, and their freedoms/rights throughout Putin’s tenure.

Armenia already ousted their Putin-friendly govt in April. Peacefully. Without Western interference.

Georgia is on path to join NATO.

And Russian ally Iran is facing an imminent uprising in the coming years. Russian State television has already accused America of fomenting coup in Iran. Because, the Kremlin understands it is not in their interest for Khomeini regime to be overthrown.

Might give their own people ideas...It’s a domino effect: the Russian people, by God’s grace, will be next. To be free. Peacefully.

Nothing overnight. And only with much prayer and faith.

And i also agree that there are some immediate issues of practical concern worth cooperating on: Syria/Israel namely. And i trust Trump’s involvement to rein in Russia’s worst impulses in the region and achieve righteous compromise.
