Survival of the richest: The wealthy are plotting to leave us behind
CNBC ^ | July 11, 2018 | Douglas Rushkoff, author of "Team Human"

Posted on 07/13/2018 8:59:28 PM PDT by familyop

They knew armed guards would be required to protect their compounds from the angry mobs. But how would they pay the guards once money was worthless? What would stop the guards from choosing their own leader? The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew. Or making guards wear disciplinary collars of some kind in return for their survival...

That’s when it hit me:...they were preparing for a digital future that had a whole lot less to do with making the world a better place than it did with transcending the human condition altogether and insulating themselves from a very real and present danger of climate change, rising sea levels, mass migrations, global pandemics, nativist panic, and resource depletion. For them, the future of technology is really about just one thing: escape.

"There will be no need for billions of unskilled, illiterate masses"

This world was made for mankind - not demi-gods. When there is no longer a place in it for common men then it's time is over.

Weapons of mass destruction - they're not just for the wealthy anymore.

"insulating themselves from a very real and present danger of climate change, rising sea levels,"

I stopped reading right here.

If these super-rich, all-male hedge-fund managers are abandoning their beach front mansions, and selling them at rock bottom prices, I might think they really believe that bull$hit.

But since they AREN'T, they don't believe it either.

It never ceases to amaze me how billionaires can have the smarts to accumulate so much money, yet be completely clueless about things that are common sense to most people.

Liberal 'elites' don't plan on living in their ‘bug out’ mansions in New Zealand - they'll go there when ‘the need’ arises. Or their third choice in Canada...

The men with guns will choose a new leader if you propose something like this. And they’ll be willing to kill you or let you die if they suddenly wake up with shock collars.

Hedge Fund managers in a dystopic world would not have power. That's what they're trying to figure out - how do they keep their power when they have nothing to offer...

Agreed. They will not do well IMHO. Head of security will be in luxury for a bit then repeat and ....

Super rich people just stop thinking normal after a while. Not all but most.

I’m more concerned about the precedent set by the Chinese Sesame Credit system.

There’s one score assigned to a person based on how you live your life in accordance with government expectations. Commit a crime, have an illegal child, don’t buy what the state wants, be late on payments, go into debt, complain about the government on social media, have dissident friends, cheat on tests, your score goes down.

If you buy what the state wants to sell, share government propaganda on social media, obey the law, follow strict social rules, and your score goes up.

A high score results in higher rankings on dating sites, eligibility as a sperm donor, permission to travel abroad, lower costs for car rentals, eligibility for coveted jobs.

A low score means you can’t travel domestically, are barred from certain jobs, pay more for services if considered at all, are impossible to find on dating sites.

It is built on a cross between our credit score system and gaming platform ratings.

You're right - and in the age of computers this level of control - FICO on speed - is possible.

Agreed. But the article does cast light on some political influences, doesn't it.

Thank you all for the interesting and broad range of analyses and exceptionally realistic probabilities. Wasn’t able to get back to you sooner.

On the article, I was most interested in seeing some of the origins of some of the fears disseminated by the political left (climate change with the assumption of anthropomorphic causes, “nativist panic,” resource depletion, etc.). Some politicians receive their directions from the most influential constituents.

Thank goodness, we’re finally seeing leadership from politicians who work hard for their whole range of constituents.

Not all rich folks are so afraid or selfish. Some of them have the best interests of all of us in their minds and efforts. Yet others of them appear to have eccentric or even funny ways of showing their honest philanthropic tendencies towards fellow Americans.

Thank you, Mr. President. And Elon, climate change is being caused by enormous, natural though infrequent geo- (magnetic and core) and solar events—not smoke and methane generated by us teeny, tiny people. But sincere thanks for your other great and wonderful efforts, Mr. Launching-a-car-into-space-crazy-man. Please continue to support our President and those who are advising and helping him, and a huge thanks for the open source designs.

On what would happen after a disaster that would really disrupt some of our comforts and generation of wealth for a period of months or more, there are different kinds of disasters with many different possible effects. But here are a few things that I’ve learned.

When we human beings need civilization much, many of us tend to cooperate. There are vestiges of different cultures in different parts of our country, so people do vary from region to region on kinds and extents of cooperation (firsthand experiences).

Let’s have a look at the “tropical paradise” of Haiti for more food for thought. Nearly a third of Haitian soil is arable, but there are about a thousand people per .8 square kilometers of land in Haiti.

In the United States, there are now about a thousand people per 5.4 square kilometers of arable land and a seemingly endless stream of incoming, conflicting, conspicuously subservient cultures on the way from extreme southern latitudes.

Liberal biases are damning in the article.

They have raised the personality trait openness, love of novelty, to a moral virtue - the more diversity the better, the more exotic, the better, and the more unusual something is, the more morally superior it is to the boring, bland, BAD native culture they grew up in.

It leads to idealization of the immigrant and hatred for the native born. This is why they want and demand widescale immigration. And it explains why they see nativist panic as an evil movement to be suppressed, instead of admitting ... THEY ARE INTENTIONALLY DESTABILIZING THEIR OWN SOCIETIES AND CREATING THE BACKLASH.

Liberals, in fact, make the whole issue worse by telling the newcomers you’re better, you don’t have to learn the language or culture, YOU’RE BETTER. Liberals are bigots against their own culture and ethnic groups unless they count as a more moral diverse category.

They won’t be prepared for one thing - the return of Christ.

Is that ever true. They can develop all kinds of astounding tech, but can't think their way out of a paper bag about their souls' survival.

some of the elite will “download” their neural systems into digital form so as to become immortal, in some sense.

I guess there will always be work for editors, then. When I think of some of the horrible thoughts I have had from time to time in my life amongst all the cumulative years of good thoughts, loving thoughts and productive work, I cringe to imagine how much work it would take to develop a download system that would filter the junk out so that it couldn't be hacked by some wicked reporter trying to make his name in tabloid journalism. "She discovered a cure for cancer, AIDS and malaria, but Wikileaks has discovered she said the n-word several times, so let's permanently erase all her files and pull down her statues!"

True. If they have not responded to the Gospel first.

They’ll be faced with the choice of Antichrist when the Great Tribulation starts, though.

I read this story earlier in the week that the super rich were planning on "leaving the earth" and "leaving us behind." I just laughed. They have no idea what is coming, and they have no clue on the REAL answer to escaping what is to come.
