If visiting and staying overnight in ABQ, the usual cautions are advised:
- Do not leave important belongings in your vehicle and certainly not in plain sight.
- If traveling with a U-Haul, make sure you have a sturdy lock on the cargo door and disable the wheels with a heavy chain or other device so that a thief can not hot-wire the truck and drive away.
- If towing a trailer, secure it in a similar manner so a thief cannot drive off with it.
- To those visiting or living here, do not warm up your car in your driveway or hotel in winter, and do not leave it running with A/C on to cool it in the summer.

Wisconsin (not Madison or Milwaukee) has a winter rule. Everyone respects a running car in a parking spot when it’s winter. Nobody turns their car off when running errands and such. Nobody steals your car.

Notice almost all the places have large populations of Mexicans. All the Central Valley CA cities are rife with them.

Okay, the whole list makes sense to me except for Anchorage, Alaska.
Why there? Anyone?

I was sondering if there was a strong correlation with the number of lowered Chebbys.

About 5 years or so ago they did an audit of a Mexican parking lot noted for the consistent presence of premium autos there:
They ran the VINs and found that almost ALL the cars had been stolen from the USA.
IT WAS A MEXICAN POLICE STATION.

Sounds like the Albuquerque PD has to get a few bait cars up and running They do have bait cars, but like the idiots that they are, they also have large, flashing signs say "WARNING, BAIT CARS BEING USED IN THIS AREA".
I kid you not.

Some jury or judge ruled “bait cars” to be entrapment, so one cholo got charges dropped. I guess the stupid sign is considered the remedy?

They do have bait cars, but like the idiots that they are, they also have large, flashing signs say "WARNING, BAIT CARS BEING USED IN THIS AREA".Which deters thieves in that area, cuz they don't know what's what.
That being said, I have a co-worker who didn't learn his lesson the first time his car was stolen here in Albuquerque. He left it running and went back into his house for his briefcase. Not more than 30 seconds, and it was gone. That car disappeared. No luck in tracking it. His replacement vehicle was also stolen a few months later, because he did the same damned thing.
That vehicle was found within a few days and returned, thankfully not destroyed.
I think he learned his lesson on the second one. Maybe his was a "lightning-doesn't-strike-twice" kind of mentality.
