Investigators say they frequently impersonated officials from the IRS in a ruse designed to defraud victims located throughout the United States... Four Texans among 24 defendants were sentenced for their part in a massive India-based call center fraud and money laundering scam. The U.S. Department of Justice says the group defrauded thousands of U.S. residents of hundreds of millions of dollars. All were sentenced in Houston this week.

Did't say who the others were or what state they were located. Bet they're all here on visas and should be kicked out of the country. Just stop all work and student visas and kick out the ones here (helloooo, ICE) until we get this under control. Thank you, Soetoro.

Some bozo called us yesterday saying Microsoft had an update for us and to call a number.

I guess not everybody understands that the IRS isn’t gonna call you...they’re gonna mail you letters...letters you shouldn’t ignore.

Junk calls are making the telephone almost useless. They display a fraudulent number to hide their identity and location.
I propose public execution for these people.

Never sent me a letter. Just seized my account. Eventually got it sorted.

I love those phone calls. I especially love the one I received with the caller having a heavy Asian accent. “You do bad thing. You go jail. You send money, you no go.”

Had a Microsoft scam last week, an IRS one yesterday. I called back the IRS one yesterday and had the woman offering to send me money to not send her to prison for wire fraud by the time it was over.

Glad you got it sorted. I don’t know about your situation, but my simpler one made me feel like I was dealing with a multi-handed creature...and none of the hands knew what the other hands were doing. I didn’t owe money but there was some kind of issue with several IRA rollovers. They kept sending me forms to fill out as if I were the organizations holding the IRAs. Never could get them to understand I was the customer/IRA owner. Even the financial institutions didn’t understand it. Eventually, they stopped mailing letters. (I responded too every letter they sent.)

Heck...my kids can sort it out when they inherit the IRAs.

Does this mean I’m not going to get the opportunity to eff with these people for a third time? The first two times were so much fun. I kept ‘em going for quite a while.

Very similar experience. Multiple agents, multiple answers.

I do not think your children will inherit IRAs. Not to dissuade you or persuade you but the government is sort of eyeing IRA accounts as a way to save social security from its problems. My amateur economists guess is they will someday absorb the IRAsm into the SSA fund. I think a similar thing may happen with these states with underfunded state pension programs, that they will be absorbed somehow as the tentacles of the ever growing federal leviathon expands maybe take all states into a national program royally screwing the states that acted responsibly.

I suppose you have a right to be worried, but your claim that the Government will “somehow” absorb IRA accounts even though they are owned personally and reside in thousands of institutions ( banks — stock market investment companies — Etc.) and in fact are usually invested as ownership in specific stocks and bond instruments, is suspicious. Your post needs to be more specific, otherwise, it looks like a bad dream — which admittedly it is.

"Junk calls are making the telephone almost useless."

I was thinking, we ought to deduct part of our phone bill as advertising, but couldn't quite make it through the logic. Maybe put a price on my time spent answering robocall after robocall.

Politicians in DC have been salivating over IRAs and 401K's for many years and once in awhile they mention it in public.

They have yet to steal the accounts because of the backlash but the crisis they created with Social Security is now ready to explode and will present the opportunity for them to take the money.

They will instantly take all the cash, spend most of it on non-Social Security spending, and place more IOUs in the accounts just like they did with Social Security.

Back in the early 80s I read about some politicians wanting IRA/401K money so I invested my money myself. Haven't done bad at all and the Government will have to seize the stock market to steal from me.

I was getting multiple robocalls a day before I bought and installed my Sentry. It stopped the nuisance dead in its tracks. Over the last year, I have had maybe two unwanted phone calls get through. My phone stays mostly silent now.

You doubt these are native born Texans? How unkind of you. (do I need to say that’s sarcasm?) I’ve received some of these calls myself and for the life of me I’ve never been able to figure out how they make any money off their stupid calls. What kind of person talks to them? Had a message left just the other day from one for the first time in a couple of years and the person did not have an accent at all. I’ve always filed a complaint with the FCC before but didn’t think it was even worth doing any longer. I am sure delighted that some action has finally been taken..

“”Sunny Joshi, aka Sharad Ishwarlal Joshi and Sunny Mahashanker Joshi, 47, of Texas, was sentenced to serve 151 months in prison on the charge of money laundering conspiracy, and 120 months in prison on the charge of naturalization fraud to run concurrent followed by three years of supervised release. Ashvinbhai Chaudhari, 28, of Texas, was sentenced to serve 87 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release on one count of money laundering conspiracy. Nilesh Pandya, 54, of Texas, was sentenced to serve three years probation on one count of conspiracy.””

Over quite a few years some politicians have proposed to pass legislation allowing the government to assume full control and own all IRA and 401K accounts. Thus, ownership would transfer from the private account managers/companies to the government. The government would then administer the accounts and invest them the way they want.

At that point the government could remove money from stocks and bonds and replace it with Treasury IOU's and then spend the trillions of dollars they just stole. With their record don't think they won't use all that cash to enrich themselves and their friends and spend very little of it to rescue Social Security.

In the end we will have to forms of Social Security systems, both insolvent.
