Why the Christian Right has embraced Putin
NY Post ^ | 7/21/18 | Jeff Sharlet

Last week’s arrest of Marina Butina, the 29-year-old operative who allegedly wielded sex as a weapon to spy for Russia, revealed not one but two channels into American power pursued by Russian intelligence. We’ve known for a while now that the Russians have attempted to use the NRA, and America’s love affair with guns, to shape the nation’s politics. But Butina’s other “backdoor” was more surprising: the faith community, which she infiltrated through the National Prayer Breakfast.

The annual National Prayer Breakfast dates back to 1953, and every US president since Eisenhower has regularly attended, along with much of Congress, foreign heads of state and high officials. Invitations to the seemingly bland event come on congressional letterhead.

And yet the breakfast is entirely organized by and funded through a private and deeply secretive Christian organization called the Fellowship, known by its innermost members as “The Family.”

Weird. Hadn’t realized I had not realized I had “embraced” him.

Isn’t it alarming when you realize that the people who believe this idiocy were running the country for eight years?

Anymore the media’s fast tacking linkage to everything they can to support the dem agenda regarding Russia.... This is no different.

They know by keeping the Russia thing ‘alive’, and all the other investigations and suits it’s their best chance to ‘occupy the news cycles 24/7’ and keep the ‘lights off’ their criminal corruption.

Demorats and media are all about ‘creating’ vast amounts of chaos and confusion... and this layers upon layers upon layers to “hide” what they never what discovered. Because even looking like they’re completely mad is still better than long jail sentences or worse....

Imagine the subject of religion coming up, and the word fellowship somehow making it into the discussion. Why it’s a scandal of major proportions. Oh the huge manatees...

Does the Left even think before publishing or claiming certain things?

The Prayer Breakfast is a time for thanking God, and praying for him to be with people as they seek to govern, to run businesses, and work for government or businesses.

Wow, can you imagine such an evil situation.

This poll shows that there has been at least some rapid change among those identifying as Republicans.

Have any other religious/ethnic groups “embraced” any Russian or Soviet leaders?

I heard Gizzi say that Butina worked on setting up an NRA type organization in Russia, with the approval of Kalishnakov.

I just find it odd that conservatives don’t have trouble with Trump seemingly cozying up to Putin.

Cozying up to Putin? As compared to Bush, Obama and the Clintons? Have you been living under a rock for the past 15 years?

Well, sure. And if the media repeats a lie long enough, stupid, gullible people think it's the truth. See: climate change.

"The Prog Left has proclaimed loudly that they are not our brothers and sisters in Christ."

That's the truth. Is there any chance that the Russians (maybe even including Putin) want to avoid a conflict with us? That they saw the setup taking place and knew what its intended conclusion was? Just conjecture, of course, but one has to wonder given all that's come out thus far.

The Post writer should be careful. "The Family" could be anywhere, be anyone. Perhaps the writer should check under his bed.

It’s sounding more and more that her real crime was in associating with the right.

This!

I've been scratching my head trying to figure out what was the actual crime she committed because as far as I can tell, she joined the NRA and talked to conservatives. This is foreign meddling?

First time I have heard that Christians embraced Putin. I have heard it said Christianity is alive and well in Russia, and that Putin regularly attends a Russian Orthodox Church, and that the Russian Orthodox Church is the only church worldwide to supports the beleaguered Christian churches in Syria and other places in the Mideast. But If that is supporting Putin then I guess I’m guilty.

Supposedly she failed to register as a Russian agent. But I guess the real question is whether she acted as a Russian agent.

Putin's "Christian" Russia.

Putin's Russia persecutes every church except for Russian Orthodox Church(ROC). In a dirty deal, Putin gets support from the Russian Orthodox Church and in return squashes any competition from Baptists, Protestants and other evangelicals.

Gleb Yakunin, a critic of the Moscow Patriarchate who was one of those who briefly gained access to the KGB archive documents in the early 1990s, argued that the Moscow Patriarchate was "practically a subsidiary, a sister company of the KGB". Critics charge that the archives showed the extent of active participation of the top ROC hierarchs in the KGB efforts overseas.

Russia's Newest Law: No Evangelizing Outside of Church (UPDATE) Putin signs new restrictions that limit where and how Christians share the gospel.

https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2016/june/no-evangelizing-outside-of-church-russia-proposes.html

Russian people are some of the least religious people in the world.

But Russia and the former Soviet Union have never had our best interests in their intentions. Far from it. And conservatives seem to have abandoned that position.

What country does have our best interests in their intentions? Until Trump was elected, not even the United States put our best interests first!

Russia is our natural ally. As Western Europe surrenders to Islamization, only Russia, and a handful of less powerful Eastern European nations remain as the proud defenders of Western Christendom.

This isn't the 80s anymore. It's time to stop pretending otherwise.
