Executives and creatives are losing their jobs as the entertainment industry becomes less tolerant of offensive remarks, abusive behavior. Disney has severed ties with filmmaker James Gunn, who previously directed two Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
Hollywoods longstanding say-anything, do-anything culture is rapidly turning into one where the wrong words can have career-killing consequences. Top executives at Viacom Inc.s Paramount Pictures and Netflix Inc.,as well as creative talent who worked on the Lethal Weapon television series and Guardians of the Galaxy movies have been fired in recent months after allegations of offensive remarks, verbal abuse and other inappropriate behavior that in the past was more likely to have been tolerated, industry veterans said.
Saying something offensive back in the day wouldnt necessarily get you fired, said Tom Nunan, a former high-ranking television executive and executive producer of the Oscar-winning movie Crash, about race relations in Los Angeles. Now the consequences are severe and immediate.
The recent firings comes in the wake of the #MeToo movement that started in Hollywood with allegations against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and has had repercussions throughout workplaces.
Mr. Weinstein has denied accusations of nonconsensual sexual acts. In Hollywood, the movement marked a dramatic turn from the longstanding practice of considering the bad behavior of executives and talent to be a cost of doing business.
Now, the corporatization of the entertainment industry combined with online activism and a new generation of workers not afraid to push back is leading to far less tolerance of misconduct, along with fear of public fallout for not taking swift action.

publicly supporting Donald Trump or the prop-8 legislation could also kill your career. Ask Mozilla, Papa Johns, etc...
THEY paid richly to make this intolerant bed:
LET THEM *SLEEP* IN IT.
Yup.
Got to read a few before they were deleted.
It was enlightening.
My parents took picks of me naked on the hood of their car on a fur. I was 6 mo old. I have tons of pics of my oldest boys naked at the river in Switzerland or jut playing with the sprinklers here in the USA. Never thought anything about it.
But I have no naked pics of the last two that show genitals. Because now we know that even private pictures taken digitally can be used and abused. There have been families told that their childrens scantily clad photos were FOUND IN COLLECTIONS OF PEDOPHILES. Like their kids on a beach in a bathing suit. My kids swimming or beach photos could be right now. Its sick.
Second count conviction for pedophilia crimes should be instant death penalty. That would help a lot.
There are some extracts in post 20. Yuck. And nobody cared until last week.
But the policy said that if an uninvolved third party overhead something and they thought it was harassment, or could be considered harassment by some arbitrary fourth party, by definition, it was.
I lost two good electricians that way at a construction site in 2000. The offense: The man said to the woman “Nice T-Shirt”. The woman’s T-shirt had a Texas A&M logo, and the man’s children went to Texas A&M. Both the man and woman worked together terminating wiring in the many junction boxes at the plant. Another woman walked by, heard the comment, and reported it. The man was fired, in spite of his co-worker vociferously saying there was no harassment. She quit the following week.
So showing Aggie pride is sexual harassment in the workplace.
That’s why when women are in the workplace I become a drone.
Worse, a horse of morons are defending him online.
Smart device doesn’t know “Horde”.
Nekkid baby pics on the living room rug were a “thing” back in the 50s. Same with bathtub baby pics. Nobody thought anything of it (just cute).
We never thought of Liberace as gay, just entertaining.
Now the most supposedly most liberated country on the planet is all sex-crazy-sick.
I’m not surprised.
I keep deleting things I would post because they completely fail to convey the revulsion.
Fill in my standard rant x 8.
I figured it out. Most writers don’t know “horde” or can’t tell it from “hoard,” not to mention “whored.”
Whether, weather, wether!
The naked baby pictures were harmless, for the parents and almost all viewers. Liberace was a predatory homosexual, not “just” entertaining. (He was entertaining, too.)
Liberation of appetite does tend to perversion, because physical appetites are pretty basic. You were hungry, you ate something, you aren’t hungry anymore. You felt a genital urge, you screwed something, you don’t feel the urge for a bit.
When you try to get more out of it, you find that it isn’t there. No matter what you eat, there’s a limit to the enjoyment. No matter what or how you screw, it’s still just a screw. But if you think there’s a one-in-a-million experience out there, you’ll keep trying sicker and sicker stuff, reaching for an ultimate satisfaction that doesn’t exist.
At the end of the day, it’s still a simple, physical appetite, that can be dealt with in the simplest possible way.
My point is that WE never thought anything about it. Our minds weren’t on sex.
Movies & TV had codes to follow - yes a lot was covered up, but it was only the prurient who were interested in those sorts of things.
The dirty mags were thought of as just that - dirty.
It was only when the money people realized they could make a fortune selling sex that it became so pervasive.
I hate when it changes what you typed, sometimes several seconds after you typed it.
I agree: “we” didn’t think about it, because we weren’t constantly being told that we should. However, we also didn’t think about harm that was being done, such as Liberace’s lifestyle, or children who were being abused while it didn’t cross our minds.
A “Gotcha”, witch-hunt culture on this benefits no one, and ultimately devours everyone, left or right.
Let it devour Hollywood.
It’s a bit of a double-edged sword. Do we see more of it because there is more of it, or is it because only now it is being aired.
The price of crime has been lowered, so the base instincts have less of a governor on them.
What really frosts me is the marketing of sex to our youth.
Brings to mind C.S. Lewis quote:
“The greatest evil is not now done in those sordid “dens of crime” that Dickens loved to paint. It is not done even in concentration camps and labour camps. In those we see its final result. But it is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voices. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the office of a thoroughly nasty business concern.”
I agree. One wonders if the men (and women) in the clean, quiet offices are doing it just for the money, or because (like the subject of the article) they want to have sex with little children.
