President Trump is looking into revoking the security clearances of several top Obama-era intelligence and law enforcement officials, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Monday.

During the daily press briefing, Sanders told reporters that the president was considering taking away clearances for former FBI Director James Comey, former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, former CIA Director John Brennan, former National Security Adviser Susan Rice and former Director of National Security Michael Hayden (who worked under President George W. Bush).

Yes, these seditious coup plotters should not have security clearances. Should’ve been revoked January 20, 2017, 9:00 a.m. sharp.

Clearances can be made inactive, which is what usually happens when you leave an organization. You’re still cleared, you just don’t have access to classified info until your clearance gets reactivated.

Revoking their clearances (which is what the President is considering) is much more serious.

Does anyone know what you “do” with such a security clearance AFTER you left the government?

Does it entitle you to log in and see secret information? Receive updates from someone? Get briefings, if so from whom?

They should have been revoked the afternoon of January 20, 2017.

EARLY that afternoon.

If they have left the government, why would they retain security clearance? I don’t understand the process I guess. Happy to have an explanation.

So that they may leak information favorable to the Democrats.

Why is this even a question? All Obama Administration former appointees should have had their clearances revoked on January 20, 2017 IMO.

The length of time is dictated by how frequently a periodic re-investigation must be accomplished. If the clearance was for 10 years, they would only have to be investigated once every 10 years, instead of once every 5 years.

Brennan needs to prove that he is not still running ops through the CIA.

True...then you have to get reinvestigated...but once you are read off from access you should no longer have access until read-on again. I’m trying to figure out if they are trying to revoke their clearances, meaning forever, or these jamokes still somehow have access!

Clearances are usually valid for five years, and they go with the individual.

Perhaps they are valid for that long, but security clearances have always been on a "need to know" basis. This means that if your job or role don't require you to know a particular piece of information, you don't get to know about it.

A security clearance is not like a subscription to a news feed or a magazine. You don't get sent daily emails with all the latest intelligence from the global intelligence agencies. That's not how this works. These Obama officials are no longer on the job, and should no longer be getting information.

“Revoking their clearances (which is what the President is considering) is much more serious.”

Not serious at all; just just. When you leave a job you leave your papers and lock the door behind. Your clearance is part of your job and belongs to your employer in a just world.

but giving them access to anything is insane.

Exactly...security clearance is distinct from access and as such, they should have NO access. The fact they were awarded a clearance is moot without the access.

If the situation arose where they needed to have access, it could be given on a situation by situation basis i.e. they are asked their opinion on a sensitive issue taking their experience into consideration. But blanket access including briefing, not just no, hell no.

You may go to a defense contractor, authorized for US intelligence work. Such a position would require a certain level of access. Having that level of access may be a requirement for being hired.

But Trump can damn sure yank em anytime he feels like it and he should.
I had to sign a statement when I was released from the military saying I would not devulge any classified information for the rest of my life. Do it and you can go to prison. But never forget the Obama cronies think their above the law.
