~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Fort George G. Meade, Maryland

Fort George G. Meade, located adjacent to Odenton, Maryland, in Anne Arundel County, is an active U.S. Army installation. The fort, established in 1917, is named for General George Meade, a Union Army general in the American Civil War. It covers 5,067 acres in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

Due to its location near Washington, D.C., it is increasingly being used by government and military tenants like the Defense Information School, the headquarters of the Defense Courier Service, the United States Army Field Band, and an United States Environmental Protection Agency facility.

Headquarters for the National Security Agency are at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. NSA has its own exit off the Baltimore-Washington Parkway labeled "NSA Employees Only."

Fort Meade became an active Army installation in 1917. Authorized by an Act of Congress in May 1917, it was one of 16 cantonments built for troops drafted for the war with the Central Powers in Europe. The present Maryland site was selected June 23, 1917 because of its close proximity to the railroad, Baltimore port and Washington D.C.

Fort Meade enables critical national security missions by providing its customers and community the facilities and infrastructure they require, the quality of life they deserve, and a safe, secure environment in which to work and live. Fort Meade has the fourth largest workforce of Army installations in the continental United States with approximately 40,000 military, civilian and contractor personnel.

The National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS) is a cryptologic intelligence agency of the United States government, administered as part of the United States Department of Defense.

Created on November 4, 1952 by President Harry S. Truman, it is responsible for the collection and analysis of foreign communications and foreign signals intelligence, which involves cryptanalysis. It is also responsible for protecting U.S. government communications and information systems from similar agencies elsewhere, which involves cryptography.

As of 2008, NSA has been directed to help monitor U.S. federal agency computer networks to protect them against attacks.[1] NSA is directed by a lieutenant general or vice admiral. NSA is a key component of the U.S. Intelligence Community, which is headed by the Director of National Intelligence.

The Central Security Service is a co-located agency created to coordinate intelligence activities and co-operation between NSA and U.S. military cryptanalysis agencies. NSA's work is limited to communications intelligence; it does not perform field or human intelligence activities.

Learn More About Fort Meade HERE!

Also located at Fort George G. Meade is the Fort George G. Meade Museum. The Fort George G. Meade Museum was established to collect, preserve, study and exhibit historical artifacts pertaining to the history of Fort George G. Meade. The Museum is dedicated "in proud memory of those members of the United States Army who died in the defense of Freedom".

Inside the museum, visitors will discover a wealth of historic artifacts, photographs, documents, and paintings. Outside, on the beautifully landscaped Museum grounds, visitors can see historic military equipment including tanks, armored personnel carriers, a Nike "Ajax" missile, and a helicopter.

The center of the low that gave us rain and storms over the weekend is stalled just southeast of us and is giving us the nice breeze out of the north. It’ll move eastward later in the week and we’ll warm up again. I had no clue this would happen - - just got VERY lucky to have it cool us off for the two days I’m able to take a turn at manning the tent.

Have you ever listened when you were at the vet clinic? Quiet? Any dogs that are in the cages make plenty of racket and that isn’t exactly settling to cats. Might want to rethink waiting til the last minute to pick that poor lil girlie up.

True. Forgot about the dogs. LOL! But I sure ain’t going up there at 9am. LOL! We’ll get her home and I hope she is doing well after her surgery. They will give her an injection so I don’t have to try to give her meds. We don’t know each other that well. :)

Good evening/morning, radu...sounds like you had a busy day.

The boss came in this morning, but had to go to meetings and didn’t come back. I was busy ALL day. Then the system “stuck” and the late Monday things couldn’t be done. Hopefully it will be working in the morning. *sigh*

Yes, it is VERY annoying....and no time to do anything about it. LOL!! It was centered at home when tested.

Did kitty come home today or is she spending the night at the vet’s?

Nooooo, don’t need ANOTHER early morning. LOL
She’ll be happy to get out of there when you do pick her up.

I know a lot of people like to get their cats a pain shot after surgery but I’m not one. I did that once and never again. The cat did WAY too much jumping the first night home and tore one of the stitches. If they hurt, they stay pretty still. They seem to feel much better by the second day any way though they still don’t get too crazy and stupid.

My vet does give our cats a Convenia shot though. That’s a great antibiotic that lasts two weeks. It keeps the chances of an infection setting in at the incision very low. It sure beats having to give them oral antibiotics for two weeks. LOL

Yes, it was a busy day but very fun. Some of the candidates popped by and the one I like a LOT was one of them. He left TN when he was young and moved to AZ. And he worked for Sheriff Joe for several years before moving back to TN. Nice fella and sharp as a tack.

Dang the luck! Just can’t get through a Monday without something fouling up, can you? At least the boss was kind enough to not be in your hair all day.
I hope they get the system working EARLY so you can finish that stuff asap.

She is spending the night and we’ll pick her up tomorrow after lunch.

It’s amazing that one tiny little bit of code can change the whole darn thing! And then there’s people like me that forget the title. LOL!

Have you found someone to replace that creep, anti-Trumper, GOPe, swamp dweller?

I wish we could get rid of Murkowski, she of the same description.

I imagine Blackburn will win his seat. I SOOOOOOO look forward to the day he’s outta there, the little creep!

I wish you could say bye-bye to Murkowski, too, but who knows when that’ll happen? *sigh*

Hai - (((HUGS))) New computer will be arriving around the 3d or 4th. of Aug - just in time to bid for my routes, meantime that BSOD keeps popping up so I guess I’ll have to deal with it until then.

Were they very successful?

They must have been -- they were out of my size! Pretty funny message, you have to admit. Even to say "Odenton" is to laugh. It's a not bad area, but it's also a kinda typical army town.

Posting on an older thread for privacy but just wanted to post a pic of daughter, Hilary, who was a Bridesmaid at her childhood best friend's wedding last weekend.
