I understand the Steele material has only falsely been painted with the term "opposition research," as if there was ever any well-intentioned person involved therein digging for real dirt.

Steele's UK-based media writings indicate he'd been working on material originally intended to be merely fodder for a so-called whisper campaign. That is, it would be a document that would be fed to friendly (if not paid) socially-ensconced agents that would drop its "precious" made up to be salacious tidbits into conversations within the ubiquitous inside-the-beltway cocktail circuit, much like the info that was dropped into the lap of the young Trump "advisor," Papadopoulos. Of course, just as is common with the whisper campaign process the words being repeated on Papadopoulos' lips would the give the false information it's Trump taint, exculpatory the true source and financier, the H-> Campaign/DNC.

Further incriminating for the Hillary crowd is that her underlings were reportedly the source of some of the dossier info. Why pay millions for your own made up research? That shows they wanted a document that would be perceived to have been produced separately (as also seen in their use of Perkins Coie as their money laundering intermediary).

Furthermore, if it had been honest H-> research info that her team added, why would absolutely none of it have been verifiable? Could even her team not have provided leads that the media would have been all-too-happy to show its journalistic prowess to "investigate?"

The nature of these facts reinforces the theory that the dossier's intended use was to be a whisper campaign document, untraceable to H-> and and that evolved out of necessity to placed before the FISC as its best available card, a barely-plausible stand-in for real evidence of a crime. The fallback position of using it to begin a Special Counsel fishing expedition might have to do as a last resort. With the right judge at FISC, the Deep State could "make" it fly.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzt! No one should honestly call the Steele dossier "opposition research."

That's correct. She was prohibited from entering the United States at the time and had to seek some sort of special permission/authorization to be here for the limited purpose of that meeting.

You bring up an excellent point here in that someone probably very high up in the Obama Administration (if not Obama himself) was a willing participant in this set-up.
