Full title (shorted for posting)

A leaked photo shows that China is building a supercarrier that could rival the US' Nimitz-class carriers

--

China has grand ambitions for a world-class navy, and is reportedly building two more aircraft carriers with enhanced capabilities that would make them among the world's most powerful navies. But it's unclear what China ultimately intends to do with them. Is it for prestige? To project power? To protect its interests overseas? We asked two naval experts to find out more.

How heavy is a “Rod From God”? How fast does it come at the target? Use that calculate the kinetic energy. Then you probably can look up the kinetic energy of a 1000 pound bomb. (Let’s say it’s filled with TNT!). You probably can find the KE of 1000 pounds of TNT online. Then compare!

I wonder what the impact of Chinese culture will have on their navy. From what I've watched and read, the Chinese prefer to cheat and "get over" their customers whenever they can. Nothing is what it pretends to be. Nothing is built to last. And no one wants to maintain anything.

All their new buildings are falling apart. How long will the Three Gorges Damn last? It wasn't built on bedrock. How long will the PRC navy ships last--How long will it take them to understand, internalize, and institutionalize all the stolen or copied theory and practice? (And they stole not only from the US, but from everyone else too; especially the then USSR, now Russia)

Between theirs and ours, there are lots of reefs out there just waiting to get started.

Maybe, but they are thinking wrong. By the time they develop a carrier force that is worth anything, carriers will be obsolete. If they are planning to challenge our blue water dominance in the future, this isn’t going to help them get there.

"Similarly, building a ship with a large flight deck will not give the People Liberation Army Navy the aviation capabilities that we earned over 80+ years of flight operations. I’m not in any way worried about a PLAN carrier."

My very first thought, as well.

I’m guessing these carriers are very expensive to make. And their economy depends on the US buying Chinese products....hmm...

Who cares if these free trade deals are helping them build their military at the expense of ours, as long as I can save $.10 on a foreign made paintbrush?</Free Traitors>

Because both sides are building hypersonic missiles to shoot at bicycles riding on the boardwalk.

You and your aircraft carriers are fighting the last war.

China “leaked” that photo on purpose and send to to every news outlet they could, thinking this trade war is a poker game.

It’s “made in China” out of Chinese steel and aluminum. Hell, it might even be made of Balsa Wood for all I know.

“The Chinese engineer will have cheated his way through school.”

Hate to tell you but the Indians are the cheats, the plagiarizers, the ones who want the exam answers published.

The Chinese are the diligent students, and they are good at it.

I’ve both worked with and taught the Chinese. Do not underestimate them.

...aviation capabilities that we earned over 80+ years of flight operations.

Not just 80+ years, but amazingly, two years shy of a century!

The USS Langley, CV-1, was rebuilt from a fairly new Naval collier into a carrier in 1920.

100 years of carrier operations in 2020.

Now THAT'S a legacy!

“The problem is while China doesn’t have the experience with carrier operations the US has”

So? Just how long would it take to get it??

The Chinese have been sending tens of thousands of their best and brightest to the US, entering our military, colleges, and corporations. We have been sending them our manufacturing.

The Chinese have been paying attention. In 1994, 80% of that country lived in poverty. Today, only 5% do.

They learn quick.

It's not a photo, but rather a Chinese author's rendering.

From the article:

The Chinese shipbuilder that's constructing Beijing's third aircraft carrier, Type 002, leaked an artist's impression of that carrier on social media in late June that heightened intrigue about China's naval ambitions before quickly taking it down.

Give me a break. That is not going to work. We have hypersonic missiles now (costing only 50 cents a piece) that can kill soldiers who cost $20,000 a piece to train, they are called bullets. Maybe we should get rid of the army too?

“You and your aircraft carriers are fighting the last war.”

Funny thing, that “last war” statement.

I think a better statement that has actually held up to be true is, “Those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it.”

WWI was the “war to end war”. It wasn’t. Every large war has been declared throughout history as the “last war”.

No other country has the naval power to attack and sink our carrier fleet. A surprise attack may get one or two in the first hour or so but the retribution will be swift.

We can project air power anywhere in the world but unknowing dick heads, who have never been in the Navy, know better.

well.... OK then.

But the title says “leaked photo”.

Anyone have a “leaked photo”?

So, without the photo, it is even MORE propaganda from the Chinese. the damned thing may look like a tug-boat.

What they are going to do is simple. They are going to send their carriers over to the US mainland. Station them offshore in international waters to intimidate us.
