Two days before Marc Short the former director of legislative affairs for President Donald Trump begins his paid senior fellowship with the Miller Center at U.Va., History Profs. William Hitchcock and Melvyn Leffler announced their resignations from their professorships at the Center. Both professors will remain in their roles at the history department in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Shorts hiring drew widespread backlash from the University community, including over 2,500 signatures on multiple petitions.
In their letter to the Centers Director William Antholis, the two professors wrote that the decision to hire Short runs counter to the Centers fundamental values.

Low impedance.
Wheres Powers Boothe?
Good riddance.
Low voltage
Historians are a dime a dozen
You want fries with that?
How the hell do you resign but not resign???!?
Now they’re just instructors, as opposed to professorships, which pay better and are status symbols.
Notice how the "charges" of the professors represent mimeographed copies of the political talking point claims against Trump that Obama's army has been instructed to use, in every instance possible, to turn them into political mantras the sheeple will keep hearing in their heads. It is a practice of political indoctrination from the Left using the media as the microphone - bring it up, repeat it, and keep bringint it up and repeat it. I am putting the political talking point part of their claims in bold and underlining them.
He has associated himself with people and institutions who disregard, circumvent, and even violate the norms and laws that are fundamental to civil discourse and democratic politics.
Under the current social and political kakistocracy, probably the most satisfying result.
Enemies Domestic have no place in current so-called higher education.
BRAVO!!
Lol, bye! Enjoy greeting at Walmart.
More winning!
They’re still employed by UVA. To protest they cast aside the awesome responsibility of being members of the Miller Center. I don’t think they gave up a dime in income, they just don’t have the Miller Center accolade to adorn themselves with. Don’t worry they’ll probably still be invited to any Miller Center socials & “teas” where they will parade their “virtue” for all to gasp & admire.
Uhg, so basically like every ‘progressive’ ever... Words over substance.
I seriously doubt that these two delusional, arrogant Enemies Domestic were authorized or qualified to define the University's fundamental values...
You have an aging ambivalent Cold War warrior on the one hand (Leffler) and a young man on the make who has detoured from Cold War history to modern ethnic studies. In a sense, their paths are but one aspect of the tragedy that has befallen the Liberal Arts.
Of course!
The two professors apparently are focusing on their interpretation and version of the Centers fundamental values. What is their version of the Center's fundamental values?
Looks like good riddance to me. Not long ago opposing views would be welcome on campus.
The school needs to continue to purge itself of bigoted, intolerant, and un-American faculty.
They did not leave they just went back to their department. They will still only teach one class, supervise a couple of grad students and make several hundred thousands dollars a year with great benefits. All while never holding a middle class job in their life.
Okay, then. Thanks for stating your "sorry, not sorry" position so clearly.
My thought exactly!
Well put.
