Rand’s Reveal: Paul Just Announced His Decision On The Kavanaugh Confirmation
The Daily Caller ^ | 07/30/2018 | Kevin Daley

GOP Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky will support Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court, despite early misgivings about his nomination.

The senator’s support, initially in doubt, staves off a fatal defection that could have proved disastrous to Kavanaugh’s confirmation prospects.

In a lengthy tweet thread posted Monday morning, Paul said he was satisfied with Kavanaugh’s legal writings in a range of areas, despite his concerns about the judge’s views on the National Security Agency’s (NSA) metadata collection program. The senator specifically identified the First and Second Amendments, separation of powers, property rights, and agency law as topics on which Kavanaugh “will carefully adhere to the Constitution and will take his job to protect individual liberty seriously.”

He learned that from his old man. I’m generally glad to have Paul in the Senate, for all his faults, but this is a particularly annoying one.

I was thinking the same thing, that you started out with here. That’s my take as well.

I’m generally more neutral than you are, but I would say my opinion of him is above average.

You're welcome. :-)

I too am sick and tired of Rand's playing the "will he/won't he" attentionwhore/LOOK AT ME game, re whatever the next vote may be.

You’d think someone close to him would break it to him, that this little act has become very tedious.

Dershowitz says K will get 54-55 votes.

It’s all over but the shouting.

Yes, I agree with you on his father. You know, I once liked them both. Then as time passes you begin to see them differently.

I’m not completely down on him, but he is one annoying guy.

Take care...

The scenario for the democrats is difficult, but they have no real choices. The red-state Senators can oppose the nomination, which is probably a done deal anyway. But if they vote NO, they commit political suicide, and the Senate goes to 57-43. That is such a large margin that Trump can nominate my cat to the Federal bench and get 51 R votes. So the dems lose bigly.

The other option is, since this is a done deal, give the red-state democrats some “bipartisan” cover in the hopes it keeps them in office and keeps the Senate close to fight again another day. But they give up a moderate seat for a conservative on the Court for another generation. Yeah, that’s hard for them to swallow. But they really don’t have another viable option, because Kavanaugh is a done deal anyway.

This is all about what the Senate will look like in 2019, not whether Kavanaugh is confirmed.

I'm REALLY down on his crazed father and have been for quite a while.

I was neutral, re Rand, but as time has gone by, he's been turning my stomach; he's really turned into a whining, whinging, LOOK AT ME case of arrested development.

You take care too...

Chuckles Schumer has already given the Red state Dems his imprimatur, vis-a-vis re voting for Kavanaugh; ikt's a done deal and in spades.

Even voting for Kavanaugh may NOT be enough for the Dems in states where Trump won and won BIG, may NOT give them "cover", though, in the up coming election.

Rand Paul has seen the light shone by our fearless POTUS. Good to see Rand is on the train for Kavanaugh.

Now watch the red state senators get on the bandwagon.

As soon as 50 senators announce they will support Kavanaugh, 5-7 of the Red State Demoncrat Senators will suddenly support him, too. Profiles in lack of courage - just trying to save their jobs.

Trump said some time ago that Rand Paul could be depended on to make the right final choice. Rand has proven him right. If Rand wants a bit of attention every time a crucial vote comes up, I can live with it. We all have some unique needs. It is the final outcome is what really counts.

Rand is a showboating, attentionwhore, blowhard, whose act has worn thing long ago.

Perhaps you don't care; however, many more of us are sick of his and his father before him, antics.

He didn’t need to grandstand.

It gives the impression that the old adage about trying to move Republicans in the same direction is a lot like herding cats.

There are simply too many folks making noise for the sound of their own disruption, for the good of our cause.

Then there’s always the uniformed out there, who hear a guy like Rand up front, and never hear the follow-up.

They remain unsupportive because Rand once called the question.

I can easily agree about his father whom I did not like. Rand Paul is good have as a possible vote, since we can’t rely on many democrat votes for anything conservative.

Rand is a libertarian first and that is how he operates.
