Activists are calling on Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) to resign ahead of a massive protest scheduled for this week.
Protesters plan to walk along Lake Short Drive during Thursday’s rush hour, on the first day of the Lollapalooza music festival, and end up at Wrigley Field during a Chicago Cubs game.
Rev. Gregory Livingston and other organizers for the march against violence reportedly went to City Hill on Monday to tell Emanuel not to vocalize his support because they’re asking for him to resign.
“The call of the people is ‘Resign Rahm,’” Livingston told The Chicago Tribune. “So how, then, can you back your own regime change? How do you sanction your own termination? How dumb, naive and self-hating do you think we are?”
The Tribune reported that the group is calling for Emanuel and Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson to step down in the face of the city's failure to stem its gang- and police-related bloodshed.
Rev. Ira Acree, another organizer, told the Tribune that people are prepared to be arrested.
“We have people who are committed, who are ready to get arrested,” Acree said. “And those who don’t, they’ll stay back. But certainly, people are going to get arrested. And we will have attorneys and people who will provide resources to bail them out.”
The protest will likely stall traffic throughout the city as crowds move along one of Chicago’s busiest roads and into the Wrigleyville neighborhood.
“The protest route has been well publicized. We have no need to talk with Superintendent Johnson,” Livingston said. “Did Dr. King talk strategy with Bull Connor? With Gov. George Wallace?
Livingston added that marchers may try to force their way inside of the baseball field while the Cubs play the San Diego Padres.
“That’ll be your surprise,” he said.
“Honestly, when the mayor endorses a protest, it’s no longer a protest,” Acree said. “It becomes a parade, and we’re on serious business."
Not to worry. He’ll live the rest of his life in luxury courtesy of Chicago’s taxpayers. It’s not as if he’ll have to dust off his ballet slippers and dance for coins on Chicago’s sidewalks.

Any ideas why white folks would protect the Chicago mayor from the black folks getting killed and shot? Maybe shooting him will slow down the killings in the hood.

This isn’t protesting, it is agitation. The purpose of protest is to persuade others to listen to a petition and come to the table; the purpose of agitation is intimidation and extortion to force others to submit or empty their pockets.

This is where the Trump team needs to start “disrupting” these press briefings to force the media to start focusing on REAL issues.
Trump should call out a reporter from the Chicago Tribune to ask him a question which they will naturally ask some stupid useless question about russia or some other phony scandel
he should respond with
“oh you’re from Chicago—lets discuss some issues there—can you please tell me what plan Chicago has to tackle the sky rocketing crime rate in your town? Why aren’t you asking your mayor and city council about that? I’ll make a deal with you—you show me the plan of action to combat violent crime in Chicago and then I’ll answer your questions”
He can take it one step further and start asking the reporter if they know who xxx xxxx is (just take any black teenage victim of any recent shooting there.
“Do you know who xxx xxxx is? no? well he was a 15 year old who was gunned down by a gang in YOUR city. does your mayor even care? seems like you have a mess in your own neighborhood to clean up before you question me. Thank you”
Race is definitely part of the equation in that whites are a ok with the arrangement that only certain parts of the city are off limits. The horrible neighborhoods where the majority of violence takes place is sequestered from the decent neighborhoods.
As long as that remains the whites can’t be bothered to fix this nightmare.

Sadly the black population isn’t marching in their troubled neighborhoods to shake things up, rather they are going to force a confrontation that I predict will either get very ugly or get shut down quickly. I’ve watched our men in Chicago contain these protests in the past, hoping they do so again.
I know where I won’t be this weekend!
If they offer Emanuel a contract with the Chicago Ballet, he’s get his ballet slippers and tutu in a flash and be out the door. A real Nureyev he be.

Wow. I’d have thought they might want to march down Madison Street through Garfield Park. There’s lots of violence happening there.
