It’s the supermarket showdown that we’ve all been waiting for: grocery shoppers versus pets in shopping carts....

Publix Supermarkets Inc. appeared to set up this battle royale when over the weekend various news outlets reported the venerable chain was finally laying down the law with regard to service animals in their stores.

Publix has posted new warnings signs at store entrances and exits telling customers which service animals are permitted in the store and where they can be.

“For food safety reasons, only service animals that are specifically trained to aid a person with disabilities are permitted within the store.

“Service animals are not permitted to sit or ride in shopping carts.

“Thank you for your help!”

Yeah, it’s getting ridiculous. A couple weeks ago I saw a guy with a puppy, couldn’t have been more than two months old, and he had slapped a “service animal” vest on him.

Sorry, but a pup that’s hardly been weaned can’t possibly have completed any “service animal” training.

I worked in a hotel for 17 years and people would claim their pets were service animals to avoid paying the pet fees. Federal law prohibits asking for proof that they are indeed service animals.

Yeah, but if you are over 30, windows had hand cranks and you could open them without a key in the ignition.

99% of 'service animals' are fake.

Except the peacock some snowflake wanted to drag on an airplane. I'm sure that was 100% legit.

Please all see post no.20 below. Says Chinese burn dogs with blowtorches while alive....

Person on local newspaper comments said two Chinese guys in 20s worked in IT at his company and suddenly FBI agents came in and took them out in handcuffs. For corporate secrets and employee identify theft info. sent to China. FBI asked all the employees “for your country’s sake we ask that you please not discuss the details of this case.”
Not as bad as their animal cruelty and abuse, I guess. But bad.

A certain percentage of Chinese students in colleges are primarily here for anti-American cyber espionage.

I love dogs, I just hate lying scam artists who have to try and abuse the system because they can’t stand to leave their dog outside the store or restaurant for a few minutes.

People like that give all dog owners a bad name, and they aren’t fooling anyone with the crappy vests they buy off the internet.

“I worked in a hotel for 17 years and people would claim their pets were service animals to avoid paying the pet fees.”

When I was a kid we never dreamed of doing that, because there were no “service animals” except for real seeing eye dogs. So when we wanted to sneak our dog into the motel, I wrapped him up in a hoodie and we called him “Cousin Eddy”!

I’m with you! I don’t want to put my groceries where Poochie Woochie has had his nasty butt!

This “service animal” stuff is being so abused by selfish dog owners.

Now if we can eliminate the fat asses clogging the aisles in those motorized carts.... Yeah, flame me, they are oblivious to "normal" people.

It wouldn't kill these people to actually walk, would it??

Well, if they don’t mind the pet (OOPS) SERVICE ANIMAL geese pooping all over the floor, I guess they can stay out of the buggies.

Still upset Southwest wouldn’t let me fly with my emotional support opossum.

Next time, ask if they allow coons on their Atlanta flights.

My local Safeway tried this a couple months ago.

Put up big signs at the two entrances.

A couple days later, the signs were gone, and now people are bringing their dogs back in the store.

The worst offenders in the Seattle area are the Russian émigré community.

They really, really love their dogs and take them everywhere.

In NY State there is a law that no animals are allowed inside any business that has food. People disobey it all the time, and businesses that have a small profit margin but large turnover tend to kowtow to the dog owner customer.

In the tight space of NYC Starbucks they bring in these huge dogs that get between you and the path you need to take. Yet Starbucks official policy is to let them in.

Watch how fast you turn into the animal-hating villain if you say a word.

Re: “Now if we can eliminate the fat bleeps clogging the aisles in those motorized carts....”

Maybe a year ago, a group of local stoned college boys flew a camera equipped helicopter drone around in my Safeway store!

That adventure lasted about sixty seconds before security arrived.

Quite funny, unless it falls out of sky on you, of course.
