Small number of 'slowpokes' cited so far, but police say new law improves safety (Idaho)
Idaho Press ^ | 7/30/2018 | Emily Lowe

Only two Idaho drivers have been cited for driving too slowly in the fast lane since the state’s new “slowpoke” law took effect July 1. Three other drivers got warnings that they better go the speed limit in the left lane or scoot over.

Those numbers, current as of July 27, are from the Idaho State Police, which patrols the state’s highways. Tickets for speeding during that time frame — numbering 2,495 — far surpass these five cases of impeding fast-lane traffic.

Even so, the new law gives troopers another tool to keep roads safer, said bill sponsor Rep. Lance Clow, R-Twin Falls.

Nope - I’m like you in that regard...if there’s room that i don’t have to be stuck behind slower traffic, I’ll let the speedsters through...if to do so would likely strand me behind a slow train of traffic, i make them wait until I clear the jammed area...funny how so many who are in a hurry, once you make room for them, take their sweet tome getting by you and don’t do you the courtesy of not stranding you behind the traffic they don’t want to be stranded behind...

Go the speed limit in the left lane around here and you’ll get run over, passed on the right in a hazardous manner, or roundly cursed. Even ten MPH over the limit gets you Bimmers and Benzes up your butt.

There are way too many self appointed “road monitors” out there taking it upon themselves to make sure nobody speeds.

Giving them a ticket is a start, but I would prefer tar and feathers followed by public execution.

Around here they have big signs at the top and bottom of some ramps that say “KEEP MOVING”, and you’d be surprised as to how many drooling window lickers still stop.

I'm sure you won't be surprised at how many right lane drivers appear to be determined to prevent that guy in the onramp from merging. Approaching an onramp I try to move over one lane to allow a merge, if conditions permit. I used to give the oncomers a headlight blink or two (OK, I see you) until a couple of times the right-laner behind me sped up to prevent the merge.

The idiots in my city don’t know how to merge into traffic from on on-ramp. They all thing everyone has to get over to let them nonchalontly merge into traffic, rather than stepping on it and finding their own damn opening to get in.

They don't realize that drivers ON highway have the right of way and it's up to them to get to speed and merge when appropriate.

It’s just like the nit-whits who jam on their brakes to crawl over a set of train tracks.

Or at a speed bump, instead of taking it at the posted 15 or 25 or whatever at an angle so you don't bounce.

Sunday morning, on our way back to the Burbank airport from Ventura, rather than take the freeways we took rural 118.

Beautiful pleasant drive. We were the only car on the road until we got to thousand Oaks! There of course it was back to the freeway to get to Costco in Pacoima to gas up.

The flight home to Concord was fantastic, as it always is with Jet Suite X (no TSA, no nonsense all the time)

A trip to So Cal doesn’t have to be stressful at all.

This is where age and experience rule!

If you tromp on the gas and get up to freeway speed going up the ramp, there is no way they can stop you without colliding with you.

Its easy to manuver if you are going the same speed they are. Speed up or slow down just a little and you are in.

Am I wrong?

NO.

1) Nobody has the "right" to exceed the speed limit by any amount. Therefore, nobody has standing to complain that someone else isn't violating the law as much as they want to violate the law.

2) It's the passing lane. You're passing. QED.

Slower traffic moves right. If someone wants to pass you, let them.

I used to drive a crappy old car, really don’t like spending money on cars. Long story short, people give you much more room if they think you don’t have anything to lose.

I don’t get road rage. I do inspire it sometimes, but not intentionally.

I would add utterly CLUELESS types. Truly!! I even see some of these yakking away--phone in hand even though illegal here. But you can tell they are just like, "Yeah, I'm enjoying driving 55 in the fast lane with a huge line of 10 behind me and I don't even notice la la la!!!!!" lol.

They occasionally look over and see all the other lanes to the right are either backed up and decifer they might actually have to plug in their brain to drive in those lanes then decide to stay in the left lane--their la la land.

You mentioned insecures and women as group a. Why do you think they do this? The left lanes, especially in California, can be filled with super fast, aggressive drivers vying for position. Why would your group a types want to even play in big boy land? (I say this as a woman with a V8 who carries her own just fine there thank you very much. :D) Are they part of the clueless crowd?
