Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Wednesday celebrated his recent discovery that he has Jewish ancestry.
“Guess I need to start saying ‘L’Chaim’ now, too!” Ryan tweeted, along with a gif of him toasting with a glass of Guinness.
The clip was from a toast Ryan gave during an annual Friends of Ireland luncheon, using the Irish toast “sláinte.”
Ryan discovered his Jewish heritage during an upcoming episode of the PBS show “Finding Your Roots.”
Host Henry Louis Gates Jr. told Ryan during the show that about 3 percent of his DNA is Ashkenazi Jewish, and that he traced the ancestry back to 1531.
"You could have knocked him over with a feather and then he was very proud of it," Gates told the Associated Press about Ryan’s response. “We don't know who that Jewish person was, but we know it was on his mother's German line, which makes sense. So somebody who was a Christian German slept with a Jewish German person and that's where that came from.”
“These DNA tests are not known for their accuracy.”
We have a squaw in the family. Name, tribe, location. She’s in the tribal records and we -had- a photo of her. Family had all been fair prior to her, then checkboard fair and dark after her. The family geneologist went all lovey dovey with a ‘lost tribe of Israel’ cult, and deep sixed the record, and the photos. It doesn’t show up in the alleged DNA results at all, despite the RECORD we had. Instead, Russian. A whole LOT of Russian. We don’t have any Russians, or even Eastern Europeans in the family. I think these things are cooked.

My DNA analysis was “less than 1% Jewish”. I don’t even know what that means for someone with European ancestry.
Wow, who would have thought DNA analysis would uncover your religion ? How does this work for converts to or out of the Jewish faith ?

My sister had her DNA done, and apparently my family is around 5 percent Jewish, too. Ancestors from Eastern Europe must be the source. I don’t consider it very accurate nor credible.
Not exactly a gene. It shows up in your ethnicity matches as European Jewish. Those populations lived in the same areas for a long, long time so their dna shares the same characteristics.

You have made the main point here. These DNA tests are trash, money-makers. Their claims go way beyond what they actually do prove. Suckers are born every minute and charlatans feed on them.

According to Wiki Tiger Woods heritage make him known as a East Asian not an African but that does help the narrative does it?

No, they aren’t trash. They match you with relatives you didn’t know who’ve also taken the test. They are very good at that.
Where they sometimes fail is what dna they assign to certain ethnic groups. They match you with ethnic groups, not countries of origin - sometimes they differ.
Exactly. One has to consider that any Western European identified Jewish bloodline includes DNA that is not purely Jewish.
