For two decades, Joseph James Pappas has held a grudge against the Houston cardiologist who performed the surgery that left his mother dead on the operating table, police say.
Pappas, 62, planned Dr. Mark Hausknecht's killing-- apparently over his mother's death -- and last month followed the doctor as he rode his bicycle to work at Houston Methodist Hospital, according to authorities.
Both men were on their bikes on July 20 when Pappas rode past Hausknecht before turning around and fatally shooting him, police said.
The prominent surgeon and former cardiologist for President George H.W. Bush was found near a construction site with hundreds of workers, but the equipment was loud enough to mask the sounds of gunfire.

They haven’t blamed Trump for it?.......................
He sure waited a long time. I’ve heard similar situations of revenge. In once case it was more than thirty years.
People are bags of emotions walking around.
Or, as Ric Ocesek of The Cars sang;
“Emotion In Motion”. 1986
Assuming that this guy actually did it, the crime was the very definition of premeditated murder. Fry the bastard!
LOL!!
?
Suicided - yes. Too many things not right with this story.
or he’s a Norman Bates type.
Not surprising in a nation that wallows in victimhood and collecting grievances is a way of life......
Long time for a hate to simmer.
Even with the imaging machines they have today, I’m not convinced a physician can tell exactly what they’ll run into, when they open someone up. This was even more true thirty years ago.
This guy’s mother may have been in far worse shape than they thought going in. They evidently couldn’t save her.
Life and death happen. It’s not necessarily someone’s fault when an older person dies.
It is interesting to me the internal clocks we all have.
Some folks drop dead at a little over 30. Others live into their nineties or longer...
If you come unhinged when a family member dies, you’re going to have a very up and down mental outlook through your life.
Accept that there isn’t always going to be a good outcome.
That’s not to say you let a person off, who is clearly guilty of misconduct. Just be very sure you’re talking about misconduct.
Then take them to court.
That family name is probably older in TX than any Anglo names you'd find there. Texas and the Southwest are full of families with Spanish surnames who have lineages that go back more than 400 years.
Hell, my surname is Russian, and only two generations removed from Russia, but I can trace folks on both sides of my family back to the time of the Pilgrims.
That is funny!
Pappas is Greek.
Pappas is Greek.
Greek alzheimers, you forget everything but the grudges.
Pappas? Wasn’t he the pitcher that Baltimore traded for Frank Robinson?
Pappas is Greek, not Mexican. You might try visiting Texas someday. I see you are flying the flag of one of the Mexicos. One would think you’d know something about Mexicans.
