Scientists see fingerprints of climate change all over California’s wildfires
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | August 3, 2018 | by Kurtis Alexander

Much of the heat that’s gripped California and hastened the spread of deadly wildfires recently is due to a strange but familiar shift in the jet stream — one that’s haunted the West with threatening fire conditions in the past and could cause more hot, dry spells in the future, especially with a changing climate.

The jet stream, the river of wind high above the Northern Hemisphere, has been weaker and wavier in the past few weeks, scientists say. Instead of pushing weather systems along as it usually does, it’s allowing the patterns to stagnate.

“We’re seeing this mix of conditions across North America and Europe, but they’re all connected,” said Jennifer Francis, a professor at Rutgers University who studies atmospheric circulation. “The weather patterns are just stuck. They’re trapped.”

The shift in the jet stream that’s driving the stagnation, say Francis and other climate scientists, is almost certainly tied to global warming.

It’s just one of the ways that climate change is probably contributing to the spree of fires in California that has killed eight people and destroyed more than 1,000 homes.

A while back a geologist noted that prior to mankind, California regularly experienced severe droughts for 100, 300 and 500 years.

Repent you sinners and build more wind turbines!

Lol And pray to the bird god that the little birds aren’t killed by the blades on the turbines.

I moved to kommiefornia in ‘98. The first two things I saw
(I 40) stunned me: 1) the entire countryside was in flames and 2) people driving along minding their own business like it was nothing.

We had a 53,000 acre fire 12 miles north of town (Durango, Colo.). The cause is unknown but there is no traffic in those rugged mountains and canyons. Our narrow gauge train travels through the area so the first thing the tree huggers did was accuse the train of spewing cinders and starting the fire. The owner of the train had his house vandalized, his car spit on, etc.

No cause of the fire has been officially determined.

His train brings in over 1000 people a day and this town is reliant on that income. Now, over 45 days after the fire the train is running again and everyone but the tree huggers are happy.

Climate change advocates using arson to advance their cause???

In some cases I’d say it’s probable.

Let me guess, if Hillary Won instead of Trump, there would be no wildfires, right?

As an aside. I had recorded the Movie “Geostorm” (which bombed bigly) on my DVR, a leftover from an HBO Free Preview.

I finally got a chance to watch it. It was the usual Climate Change / Globull Warming drivel, but the best part of the Movie (spoiler alert) is when the DNC Convention Site was destroyed by a malfunctioning Weather Controlling Satellite while most of the Attendees were still inside.

Of course the Democrat President escaped and helped save the World when his underlings, his Secretary of State and others conspired to overthrow him and gain control. I was shocked that it wasn’t some Evil Republicans doing the deed.

NO- The CARR fire was because a person had a flat tire & drove on the rim for a short distance, and then apparently pulled off the road into high dry grass with a 1000 degree catalytic convertor to help start the fire. It started WEST of Redding in French Gulch, west of Whiskeytown Lake.

The arsonist that set 12 fires with flares was in So Calif, at Mountain Center/Idylwild, near San Diego.

The more interesting part about that guy is -— he looks very Middle Eastern. Dark, etc. He lives in Temecula -—where a MEGA MOSQUE was built about 15 years ago, against the wishes of the local residents. I think they are trying to see if he is tied to that Mosque.

Meanwhile a fire east of Reno WAS ALSO ARSON. Guy is now claiming he was ‘playing with fireworks-—totally illegal-—and started the Perry fire. 18 structures & homes burned. Many people evacuated in Palomino Valley, north of Reno. Over 40,000 acres.

I live in N Nevada, and we have been smoked over by the Yosemite fire. Got some wind yesterday & saw the surrounding hills for 1st time in 2 ++ weeks.

Yup,

Forest management can do two things, 1. Remove ground fuel and 2. Improve ingress and egress roads (used to be called fire trails) So that the fighters have access.

As a plus there are logging jobs created.Win Win

I was curious about the largest fire and it was in 1910 and burned over 3 million acres, about the size of Connecticut. It spanned over parts of OR, WA, ID and MT.

Yes. The Great Fire of 1910. It was a situation where between 1,000 and 3,000 smaller fires with differing origins combined into one large fire.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Fire_of_1910

From the wiki article: "There were a great number of problems that contributed to the destruction caused by the Great Fire of 1910. The fire season started early that year, because the spring and summer of 1910 were extremely dry[6] and the summer sufficiently hot to have been described as "like no others."[1] The drought resulted in forests that were teeming with dry fuel, which had previously grown up on abundant autumn and winter moisture.[7] Fires were set by hot cinders flung from locomotives, sparks, lightning, and backfiring crews, and by mid-August, there were 1,000 to 3,000 fires burning in Idaho, Montana, Washington, and British Columbia.[5]

Smoke from the fire was said to have been seen as far east as Watertown, New York, and as far south as Denver, Colorado. It was reported that at night, five hundred miles (800 km) out into the Pacific Ocean, ships could not navigate by the stars because the sky was cloudy with smoke.[5]

The extreme scorching heat of the sudden blowup can be attributed to the great Western White Pine forests that blanketed Idaho. The hydrocarbons in the resinous sap boiled out and created a cloud of highly flammable gas that blanketed hundreds of square miles, which then spontaneously detonated dozens of times, each time sending tongues of flame thousands of feet into the sky, and creating a rolling wave of fire that destroyed anything and everything in its path.[8] "

You can blame the Bark Beetle..and the USFS...they never sprayed for it..now millions of acres of trees are dead..”””

1. Remove all grazing by sheep & cattle==LADDER FUELS are abundant.

2. Stop all timber harvesting....lose revenue from timber sales-—and see Douglas Fir timber age out at about 30 years and decline to unusable within 3 years..

3. Dead & dying trees that have aged out are now a banquet for the bark beetles.

4. Bark beetles also attack adjacent trees.

5. Clinton & Bruce Babbitt—his Sec of Interior—closed the access roads into the National Forests. LARGE gates are put into place to prevent entry. LARGER holes are dug right inside those gate for further prevention.. Fire crews CAN NOT access the fire when it is small. They can ONLY walk in or be parachuted in-—HOTSHOTS—so fire gets a head start.

6. Politicians refuse to address all of these facts.

7. Costs of fighting fires skyrockets & loss of property & homes mounts.

8. EVERYONE’S home owner insurance goes up nationwide as those replacement cots are spread out.

9. Home owner’s get to fight for months with insurance companies over their losses “You cannot prove what you had inside your house”, is their mantra. Construction companies want a premium price to rebuild the exact same home.

This is a dance that has gone on for years.

The ENVIROS need to also be blamed. The Spotted Owl is no more endangered than I am.

The Great Chicago Fire, 1871! Proof of Glo-bull warming. Minnesota forests burned at the same time.”””

The same day a fire in Peshtigo, Wisconsin took out the whole town. Never got much publicity because of the Chicago fire, but it was more destructive.

What do they mean climate change??? They caught a guy throwing lit flares out his car window after a witness reported him to the police! Who knows how much damage he did before he was caught! This was over a week ago. It was on OAN.

Amazing. Thank you.

During June and July of this year We had a 53,000 acre fire 12 miles north of town (Durango, Colo.) that may have been caused by cinders from one of the narrow gauge engines that travel between Durango and Silverton.
