An unprecedented global heatwave has shattered records in nearly every corner of the planet. Death Valley set a new record. Cities in the Middle East have seen record hot days. There were days in India where it was so hot outside that conditions were nearly unlivable for human beings. Hundreds of people have died from heatstroke worldwide this summer. Heatwaves are now causing more deaths in U.S. cities than all other disasters combined.
These sorts of the extreme heatwave events have been predicted for decades by scientists. We've known for some time now that extreme weather events like extraordinarily hot days would become more prevalent as the world heated up. They are a signature of a changing climate on Earth. But is this unprecedented global heatwave caused by climate change?
That's the wrong question, and is likely why network news executives at ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN seem profoundly incapable of connecting climate change to the global heatwave. They're paralyzed by the science that they don't (or won't) understand and an issue that is now more political than scientific in nature so they avoid it entirely in their broadcasts, even as they show endless pictures of the human toll that this heatwave is taking everywhere.
So, is the current global heatwave "caused" by climate change? No, it's not. But it is firmly connected to a multitude of important climate signals. Climate change is super-imposed over nearly all extreme weather events like the current global heatwave now. The growing costs could soon have an enormous impact on the public's health and well-being and start to overwhelm the global economy.

Remember, children, hot weather is climate but cold weather is just weather.
Short answer—————Trump. Long detailed answer-————Trump.
What does our daily weather information tell us about the climate? ANYTHING YOU WANT IT TO!
Spot on.
Heatwaves have been happening since the end of the ice age. More BS about this being something new. It’s only because of technology spreading info instantly that it appears to be more frequent.
You mean that record high temperatures have never been set before?
Riiight. When it is unusually cold somewhere, we are told that weather and climate are not the same, but when it gets hot somewhere, it is ALWAYS global warming and climate change. Loving the hypocrisy.
“There are millions of weather data points across the planet every day...local, regional, global temperature, precipitation, winds, daily highs, lows, nighttime highs, lows etc...”
And they claim to be able to measure fraction of a degree changes in average temperature over decades.
There was a time long ago when I would automatically believe U.S. News and World Report. Now I automatically know they are lying. It is hard to spread propaganda when nobody believes you anymore.
Been beautiful in Kuwait this summer. Hasn’t yet reached 130 and only gone over 120 a few times. Very pleasant here.
The deadliest Atlantic hurricane in recorded history was Hurricane San Calixto, a category 5 storm, which killed more than 20,000 people in 1780.
(Didnt watch the speech yet)
And you thought Chicken Little was just a childrens fairy tale. We are all the idiots who believed him.
Climate changes and we dont need to band together as a planet and change our ways or grant authority to the noisy Chicken Littles to save us.
Here in central Kentucky we’re getting an unusually mild summer. It seems to be a cyclical thing.
Glaciers don’t spontaneously melt during a cold snap.
A lot of vague assertions with no evidence. False conclusions and specious causality.
This is a case study in fallacious argument.
The long answer should include “President Donald”. Just saying.
It’s too damn hot to be picky. LOL!
