It’s no mystery. Higher wage offers are needed.

I have started to see a shift in job requirements. Positions that once “required” a Masters degree are now being sized as Bachelors. Same for Associates now being filled with HS graduates.

Not rocket science. Pay more money. That’s how it works.

Offering training to fill the position would go a long way to filling job positions, Not asking for the moon and stars for 12.00 an hour would also help.

Does no skills = no job? Maybe this is a push for more H1B visas.

I’d guess this is just another push for chain immigration and millions more low wage illegals.

Want qualified candidates?

Then stop using HR programs that filter out people that graduated in the 70’s and 80’s.

Sure, our health insurance may cost the employer a bit more but pay more for a good employee in wages, or pay more for benefits.

Most everything else costs about the same, and there are lots of folks that will work for another 10 years if the job wasn't so menial.

Of the 20,000 jobs available, exactly ZERO of them are seeking graduates with degrees in Critical Gender and Climate Studies.

I think I see the problem here.

It’s not rocket science. Make not working less attractive. Stop coddling people who can’t or won’t give up their drug habits and other excuses with any more benefits than they require for survival. DC elitists, both political parties: start putting it on employers to raise wages so that someone who’s fully qualified for and works hard at a job can make a living wage with a path to move up. And, oh yeah, make darn sure H1B Visas and work permits aren’t given to invaders if there are qualified US citizens available, and give them the wage they are qualified to earn.

People are not interchangeable, as much as commies would want us to believe so.
Of course they don't believe it themselves either but that's different!

I hearing from friends who work in local industries that a high percentage of applicants ( avg around 70% ) can’t pass a drug test.

When I started, they were so desperate for people that they actually ran training programs, full time for 6 and 7 weeks, to get warm bodies hired off the street ready to do the job. Its how I started, its the best thing that ever happened to me. The various companies doing it probably trained thousands during that period... then those programs went away and never came back.

With H1Bs you don’t have to train your own people, you import people from abroad and still wind up training them.

But if they tighten the borders, tighten work visa programs, companies might find themselves actually training rookies again. What a concept.

An unintended consequence of making the poor comfortable in their poverty.

Unintended consequences. When combined government benefits surpass wages applicants can afford to be picky.

Seems some rebalancing is in order.

A lot of comments about drug testing, but on the flip side, I was looking at professional job listings with a salary filter on.
Imagine my laughter at seeing this huge list of qualifications for a management level position (engineering) offering a salary that matched the going rate for a senior level engineer.
Someone else made the comment to effect that employers have had it good for so long (in terms of hiring) they've forgotten how the free market works.

Workers have to pass drug tests. The vast majority of unemployed did not pass.

If that worker shortage covers construction jobs, I can tell you what I think may be going on there...

After having profit on jobs cut by increased time to completion, my compadre and employer issued the edict that only people from this rural area get hired-no more labor hired from the city or larger towns. People out here know that skilled or unskilled, construction means physical work-the laborers we used to hire from the city were either lazy snowflake HS grads who had never had a job at all-they nearly fainted when they realized they had to lift more than 20 lbs and even get on a ladder-or they were users of meth and other hard drugs told to go to work by their probation officer, but totally useless for real work-neither the drug users or the snowflakes lasted more than a week, and drove up labor costs by taking forever to do things wrong or not at all- they were totally lazy and useless.

Hiring illegals is not an option-both my compadre and I are Texas-born Latinos and we despise mojados. Our labor costs came back into line when Pres Trump took office-we got more work and there are plenty of rural guys willing to do any work to eat and pay bills-no need to hire from cities where people apparently would rather collect unemployment-or SSDI if they can fake a disability-and get an EBT card...
