Ted Cruz asks Trump to campaign for him in Texas
MSN News ^ | August 7, 2018 | Jeremy Wallace

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has asked President Donald Trump to come to Texas to campaign for him.

During a campaign stop in Seguin late Monday, Cruz said he has reached out to his former rival for the White House to help him with his re-election effort against Democrat Beto O’Rourke.

“I would certainly welcome his support and I hope to see him in Texas,” Cruz said, standing outside the Dixie Grill in Seguin. “I think we are likely to see the president down in Texas before the election.”

Cruz said while his relationship with Trump has had its “ups and downs” due to their 2016 GOP primary battle, he has tried to become an ally to the President. He said he has been in constant contact with the White House and Trump directly to offer his help in getting legislation through the Senate.

Cruz has been suspicious of Trump like all of us should have been based on his history.

Cruz's other problem is that he's a pathological liar, as is well documented. That said, we can't let Beto win in Texas.

“Just why should Trump help him?”

Beto O’Rourke. That’s why.

Isn’t that what Nellie Connoly said to JFK in Dallas right before he was assasinated? Please don’t jinx our President.

He had said things that indicated he might not be as tough on immigration as he said.

He had praised government-run healthcare. (”It works well in Scotland.”)

He was for a big infrastructure program. Bigger than Obama’s.

He had said that if she were younger, his liberal pro-abort sister would be a great Supreme Court justice.

He was on video telling the late Tim Russert that he was pro-choice.

He changed his voter registration 6 times. He’s been a Republican three different times,a Democrat two different times, a member of the Independence Party once, and an unaffiliated voter once.

All of these were valid reasons for concern. Thankfully, President Trump has a record as president that puts these concerns to rest.

Alan Keyes is a brilliant and principled man and a patriot. He would hve made an excellent senator or president.

There is nothing in Ted’s record that would support that. He’s been one of the best senators, on just about every issue. He’s got a lifetime 100 percent from ACU and 97 from CR.

Hehas been a leader in stopping amnesty and in the fight against Obamacare. But don’t let his actual record interfere with your CDS.

Yeah, me too. The 2016 election is water under the bridge. Ted Cruz has been a reliable voice and vote in the Senate. Besides, Trump is well liked in Texas and is sure to have a big rally there which he will most certainly enjoy.

Always supported Cruz in his Senate role. His POTUS run was amazingly shortsighted.

Do you really need me or someone to recount all the ways that Lyn' Ted has crossed Trump and the American people, pulled up short on votes regarding Obamacare, amnesty, the budget, etc. Sure, he's got too-cute explanations but he has not been consistent. He's a liar--even his original run for office was a lie, his citizenship, his unconstitutional run for presidency, etc. He's never directly supported Trump. Never apologized. Heck, look at his recent answer about supporting Trump, "I certainly assume so", that is legalese for maybe. Even in April he wouldn't give a straight yes or no. He's been clearer in criticizing Trump than ever supporting him.

Pimp for him if you want, but don't expect the rest of us to blindly support him, to forgive, or forget. Ain't happening.

By the way, Lyn' Ted is still up to his campaign deceptions. I got a mailer from him labeled "Official Washoe County Summons", "Summons Enclosed - Open Immediately". Didn't he get embarrassed enough during the presidential run to stop doing this kind of electioneering?! Incredible.

You’re wrong on all of that.

It was Ted’s Obamacare filibuster tha tled to the last shutdown (which resulted in Republican gains in the House and in taking over the Senate.) According to senators from Sessions to Schumer, on both sides, it was Ted Cruz who killed the 2013 amnesty bill. Without Ted, it would have passed.

He has been entirely consistent on these issues. There is a reason the conservative rating services rate him at or near 100 percent.

He’s endorsed the President both in 2016 and 2020. A complete endorsement, much to the chagrin of some people (such as his media guy, Rick Tyler.) Not only that, but there are Cruzers all over the Administration.

How about the allegation that Ted’s father was involved in the JFK assassination, or that Ted had affairs with 5 women, including Donald Trump’s press spokeswoman.

The only named source for that, BTW, was Roger Stone, a Trump associate, advocate, and part-time adviser. It appeared in a paper owned by a close personal friend of Trump’s who had flown on Donald Trump’s personal airplane — yet Trump insisted that neither he nor his campaign had anything to do with it. Come on, Donald, do you really expect me to believe that???

But all of that was in the context of a primary campaign which was relatively close and tough. These things happen in politics. It’s two years later now, and I challenge you to find anyone in the Senate who has been more supportive and more consistent than Ted Cruz. You won’t find many, if any, and you hate those guys too.

It’s time to drop it. We’re all on the same team. Besides, there is an election coming up in a few months and then one in 2020. Beyond that, there are elections in 2022 and 2024. We need to be unified.
