If you ever wanted to visit Turkey now is the time if one does not mind the potential terrorist attacks.

How much longer will the US maintain the fiction that Turkey is a key NATO ally or that NATO really enhances the security of the American people.

When currencies collapse, vultures with few dollars of hard currency descend and pick the carcass of anything of value. The French will be outraged because the Saudis will buy much cheaper Turkish wheat rather than French grain to feed themselves and Egypt. Anyone with a little real cash can buy whatever Turkey has on the cheap.

I count some Turks among my friends. Unfortunately what Ergodan said DOES resonate with Turks. They are willing to bear almost any burden or battle, so long as they see it as “us against them”. Nationalistic pride is massive in Turkey, but used to be strictly secular. The big fear is that Erdogan has successfully merged that pride into an Islamofascist mode.

“the lira had fallen to $7.081. As recently as April one dollar bought about four Turkish lira.”
Anyone with some minimalist modicum of numeracy would realize something doesn’t compute.
MSM journalists are true to their reputation, ignorant and dumb as a pile of rocks. Rocks at least are not arrogant.

My only visit to Turkey was in 1992. The exchange rate was 8052 Turkish Lira per USD. A year later it was over 12,000 TL to the USD. Turkish merchants prefer a USD from a customer, but that runs afoul of Turkish law. You really don't want to do that EVER. I would get a written offer for a purchase in TL, then go to the local currency exchange and buy that amount of TL with USD. I purchased a couple leather jackets, a silver spoon and an all metal E-flat clarinet while working in Izmir. Interesting visit. Nice people. Good food. Didn't care for the call to prayer from minarets all over the hillside with big PA systems.
It's also good to always have a receipt for purchases. Thieves lose a right hand or worse. A couple co-workers related an experience on a prior trip. A thief grabbed a wallet from one of them. He took off running. Turkish police ran him down. He was made to return the wallet and apologize. Next, he was made to lay face down on the sidewalk and was shot in the head.

US State Dept has a country warning on Turkey. I went a number of times to resorts in Antalya and very much enjoyed it. Erdogan is an ego driven fool.

Now is definitely not the time to be anywhere near Turkey.
The “man of Sin” will soon rise from that Nation.
