Opinion: As panic about climate change sets in, I’m thinking about escape – to Canada
The Guardian ^ | August 9, 2018 | by Emma Brockes

The New York Times has devoted an entire edition of its magazine, some 30,000 words, to a terrifying piece about climate change. With 2C warming – an unlikely best-case scenario at this point, scientists were quoted as saying – the planet faces “long-term disaster”.

I was having lunch with friends in Brooklyn on Sunday, in a low-lying area that will be under water when all of this comes to pass and, political analysis aside, all we could focus on was: what on earth are we going to do? More specifically, how to ensure the survival of our children, and should it involve buying a compound in some remote part of Canada?

The difficulty is knowing how to recognise the klaxon call when it comes. Is this, the summer of forest fires and record heatwaves, the climate disaster equivalent to Kristallnacht? Or can we safely not think about it for another 10 years?

No one had any answers. One friend averred that, shabby as this line of thinking is, one had to assume that when climate change posed an imminent threat to national security, the entire US defence budget would be ploughed into technology to reverse it, and we would be saved in the nick of time.

Meanwhile, the property investment implications of climate change seem, obscurely, to be part of how we got here in the first place. Peter Thiel and his fellow billionaires are, of course, developing survival strategies that include the creation of manmade archipelagos in international waters. Whenever I feel lassitude about long-term planning, I picture the future of humanity in the form of Thiel, smug on his island, and am almost – but not quite – irritated into action.

You break me up!

Lately, when they run comments along with climate nonsense, The Guardian is not feeling the love - even from leftwingers.

1Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:

2“Who is this that obscures my plans
with words without knowledge?
3Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.
4“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?
Tell me, if you understand.
5Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
Who stretched a measuring line across it?
6On what were its footings set,
or who laid its cornerstone—
7while the morning stars sang together
and all the angelsa shouted for joy?
8“Who shut up the sea behind doors
when it burst forth from the womb,
9when I made the clouds its garment
and wrapped it in thick darkness,
10when I fixed limits for it
and set its doors and bars in place,
11when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther;
here is where your proud waves halt’?

Job 38 1-11

All these people that whine about climate change, what are they doing about it? Are they talking the talk AND walking the walk? Did they ditch their car in favor of a bike or a horse? Do they fly in airplanes? They must know that everything they use in life is some derivative of the natural gas industry or crude oil, including their phones and computers. In order to stop “climate change” we must live very close to how the Amish live. Anyone willing to do that? No? Then shut the hell up about it.

I may be mistaken.

Doesn’t Canada have some severe restrictions on immigrants wanting to come to Canada to live. Like so much money in the bank and a skill that is needed to get a job.

If so, this snowflake is out of luck.

Articles like these have been written hundreds of times. Can’t they be creative and come up with something new?

I think one winter in NW Canada will have little Miss Emma begging for global warming.

Bring your mukluks and very warm lambskin mittens... Because it’s freaking cold here for 9 months of the year and 7 of those months are so cold that you will die from exposure if you don’t have shelter, and that’s in the southern part of Canada. Go further north and it gets even worse... Enjoy!

The comments are a HOOT!

There is a lengthy one by clearly a gray haired pony tail type that basically says “we are doomed and there is nothing we can do. Goodbye life on Earth.

To that I say “OK, we’ll go with your statement. No need for confiscatory policies by despots that way either.”

"I was having lunch with friends in Brooklyn on Sunday, in a low-lying area that will be under water when all of this comes to pass and, political analysis aside, all we could focus on was: what on earth are we going to do?"

And we wonder why these people are so mentally deranged and unstable.

They are irrational, frightened, and think they are going to die because of deliberate malice on the part of conservatives.

No wonder Right on Left violence is rare, but Left on Right violence is more common.

The comments on the Guardian are hilariously trolling her on the Cool Brooklyn signalling, lol. According to the Guardian, climate change won’t occur in Canada?
