Hipsters ape what they see on TV and movies

The miniseries Vikings which is hilariously PC and the movie Lawless both were major influences on hipster men appearances

It’s weird but then again in my youth

Rockabilly ducktails and beat poet beards begat hippie long hair which lasted on and off even now some

The Beatles hair really really influenced stuff as did Easy Rider

And so forth

Hip Hop Dre heads begat thug and wigger burr heads and so it goes

That “guy” spends a lot of time ‘flossing’ that hair.

The American experience with beards was really fostered by the 2nd Great Awakening where everyone grew beards and was whipsawed by WWI and the need to wear gas masks. This WWI and WWII idea of the rugged American being well shaved then got supported by the long haired freako hippies in the 60’s.

Going back to beards was actually an incredible sea change for American men, probably brought on by the “real” men fighting in AFG with mega beards. (And yes, I have pictures of mine)

In 2018 I went through a training exercise against a team of spec ops guys. We were “defending” an embassy and learning how to use blind spots, cover vs concealment, etc.

I was between two posts, cover, and was reloading my rifle. The spec op guy, from about 50 feet, put one round in between the posts (.5 inch space) and hit my trigger finger as I was loading. Most painful thing I had ever felt, wanted to jump up and curse. I didn’t, but I really think he was hoping I would for an easy kill.

When Mr Bear grew one it came in sort of moth eaten.

A friend says he has an Indian beard: Apache here, Apache there...

A few years back, when my kids were young, I shaved it off on a whim. My youngest, about 4 at the time, cried his head off and wanted his Daddy back

For a long period of time, a dozen years, I was constantly on deployment and had a full head of hair (all the way around). All my children got used to that and expected it. Finally gave up on the deployment thing, got too old, and shaved the beard off.

The wife didn't care but the children lost their collective minds. Daddy wasn't daddy without the rug. So I grew a Sam Elliot style mustache and they leave me alone.

I think they are gross, too. I always say I like my men like my dog: clean shaven. Of course, the hubby has a clean face. He was in USNA,and USMC, and could not have one. He tried for a mustache, but kept forgetting and shave before he realized it.
