Reports of overdoses continue to skyrocket as the day progresses. A Public health alert has been issued.
NEW HAVEN, CT Emergency crews are responding to a mass overdose at the New Haven Green Wednesday. Overdoses have now spread to other parts of the city as well and are pushing emergency crews to the limit.
Overdose reports continue to come in rapid fire; there were two additional reports during the span of a short late morning press conference. The city has declared a public health alert after more than 30 overdoses.
A local man believed to be connected to at least some of the overdoses was arrested. He was arrested on a violation of probation warrant and had drugs on him, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman. He is being classified as a person of interest in the investigation.
Victim symptoms ranged from nausea to respiratory distress and unconsciousness, said New Haven Fire Chief John Alston Jr. at a press conference.
There have been no reported fatalities. Victims come from a wide range of ages and demographics, Alston said.
Calls started coming in around 8 a.m. regarding multiple overdoses on the Green.
The exact drug or drugs that lead to the overdose aren't known at this time or whether every overdose victim had the same batch. Some medical evidence suggests that it is potentially a mixture of synthetic cannabinoid K2, hallucinogen PCP and some kind of opioid, said Yale EMS Medical Director Sandy Bogucki.
High doses of Narcan at the hospital have helped some of the patients.
Illnesses are largely non-life threatening and concentrated to a portion of the New Haven Green, said city Emergency Operations Deputy Director Rick Fontana.
Police are dealing with the sale and origin investigation portion of the investigation.
"Any physical evidence and gathered intelligence, including patient testimony is considered when trying to track down and arrest those who deal illegal drugs in our city," said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.
There is a large contingent of police, firefighters and EMS on the Green as the medical emergency is sorted out.
No, but they can block traffic in the area on occasion. :-)
Then they would have NEW New Haven...........
Led by the ever lovely Mayor Toni Harp. Actually, we like to call it - "Harpo's Heaven" Where you might just happen to find an illegal alien or two hiding in the church basements to avoid deportation, being fed by Toni's buddies, Yale SJW's, and a mishmash of liberal do-gooders.
lOSERS
My entire life since the moment i became aware it was drilled into my head the dangers of drugs.
to take that first hit, shot, swallow, puff whatever i would have to be the biggest moron of all time.
I have ZERO sympathy for these people.
Disclaimer:
I have no prob with marijuana....i like it, calms me down after a hard days work.
haven’t had any in quite a awhile though...
So, am I to conclude that the Green is a big hangout for junkies?
That was going to be the name, but they couldn’t find a plank long enough to carver the whole name into, so they had to cut one of the “New”s. :-)
This was sad —
“But some overdosed again, including one person who was treated for three separate overdoses.”
I guess this means they OD’d, got treated, OD’d again, got treated and then OD’d a 3rd time?
I think grads of Yale Law caused this.
Them, or the morons being pumped out at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.
Also been to North Haven and Vinalhaven (RIP, Robert Indiana).
“SJWs at Yale cant fix this?”
Fix it? They’re probably profiting off it. I’m convinced the liberal’s demands for an open, porous border involves bribe money to keep the border unsecure so that this trash gets into the USA w/o many headaches. That’s on top of the “free” votes they get ...
F’em
And some of the finest homeless individuals to ever grace us. Though there is an big overlap between the two.
:-)
I bet they have folks there today who could beat that record.
Yep - Queen Harpo’s ugly mug!
Don’t eat the brown acid.
I would suspect New Haven Green isn’t.
Man... You’re harshing my buzz, dude... Give me another hit.
