Mary Walsh and Beverly Nance did considerable research in 2016 before deciding to move into a continuing care retirement community outside St. Louis.
They took a tour of Friendship Village Sunset Hills and were impressed by its pool and fitness center, a calendar crammed with activities, the newly built apartments for independent living. They had meals with a friend and with a former co-worker, and their spouses, all of them enthusiastic residents.
Wed met other people from the community, and they were very friendly, said Ms. Walsh, 72, a retired manager for AT&T. I was feeling good about it.
Like most C.C.R.C.s, Friendship Village a faith-based but nondenominational nonprofit includes assisted living and a nursing home on its 52-acre campus, an important consideration.
If one woman someday needed more care than the other, wed still be able to have dinner together, Ms. Walsh said. We wanted to be together, no matter what happened.
The community seemed eager to recruit them, too, offering a lower entrance fee if they signed an agreement promptly. So they paid a $2,000 deposit on a two-bedroom unit costing $235,000.

Advocates for L.G.B.T. seniors have argued for years that long-term care facilities fail to protect them against discrimination and harassment, leaving them particularly vulnerable.
Compared to older adults who are heterosexual, theyre much less likely to be parents and twice as likely to be single and live alone, said Mr. Adams of Sage.
With less help from partners or families, theyre more likely to have to rely on professional care and services, Mr. Adams said.
His organization has fielded thousands of complaints about long-term care from L.G.B.T. seniors: disrespect from staff members, harassment by fellow residents, religious proselytizing, refusal to recognize same-sex relationships.

The fact that "theyre much less likely to be parents and twice as likely to be single and live alone, is a predictable result of their life choices.
The vast majority of people in that age range still know that homosexuality is sinful and they especially hate it when it is flaunted in front of their faces.
When did it become acceptable to bully an organization into changing their values or service promise to counter their very core values? This is an attack on capitalism more than anything else. Private entities (people and businesses) have every right to associate with whomever they wish, and they should not be forced to associate with entities who do not espouse their own values.
This is soft tyranny, IMO, and it needs to be stopped. Freedom of association is ensconced in the first amendment. There’s no “right” to be allowed to associate with someone who does not wish to be your associate.
I’m pretty sure housing discrimination against homos is against the law.
They're DINKs. Dual Income, No Kids.
Sounds like a set up.
“Private entities (people and businesses) have every right to associate with whomever they wish”
Would it be OK to deny sale to a black hetero couple?
I think you are correct. "Public Accommodation" and "Sexual Orientation" being the key phrases in the current US Civil Rights Act.
Yes, it is. But does the community rulebook require law abiding behavior of the residents? And does the state in question have laws on the books regarding homosexual activity? The left uses technicalities all the time; let's find some of our own!
No, they are not married.
The headline deliberately omits the “L” word, so we will read the article. Can’t fool me.
The retirement community has the right to keep them out. I smell a lawsuit coming.
When did LGBT become L.G.B.T.? Do we get thrown in jail for not putting in the periods? How about if I do it in the “wrong” order, like TGLB? Is that a misdemeanor hate crime?
HOMOSEXUAL, because there's nothing GAY about it.
As with so many similar cases, no one else needed to have the social undersides of those two women shoved in their faces. No one else needs to be the object of recruiting or solicitations for approval of those...activities.
The problem I have with this is that the community initially recruited them and offered incentive for them to move there.
They made plans accordingly.
Notice the line of progression for these fringe people and their interaction with society at large.
1) Stop persecuting, stop prosecuting us.
2) Leave us in peace as we are not harming you.
3) We have a right to do our thing in private.
4) You have no right to oppress our rights.
5) You must accept our actions as it is our right to have these actions.
6) Acceptance is not enough, your children must be taught these rights.
7) We must be able to force acceptance as civil rights.
8) You have no right to deny us even if it violates your rights.
9) We are on top now, grovel to our victimhood!
I could not agree with you more
Just bake the dammed cake!....Oh wait.
Well, as jojo biden would say: “One word. ‘The Villages in Florida’.”
Old Lesbians, NO Kids.
And there are still dumb, stupid ,idiots on our side who call themselves conservatives who defend their crap, including this.
